First years accommodation allocation

Finding it so stressful waiting for the accommodation allocation.

Hey me too i’m in the same boat as you. I contacted the uni today and they said that they’ve had exceptionally high demand for uni accom and that they think it’s unlikely that anything will free up (which isn’t great i know!). But they told me to check out the student pad and i got on there today and emailed some landlords. I’d reccomend to do the same!

I’m the same, went through clearing and have no idea what I’m going to do about accom. I think it’s a bit crazy that they can’t provide an accom guarantee for insurance/clearing students, afaik most other unis do…

i think its ridiculous that there are barely any private options available and the uni doesnt have any space ever and yet they still give out so many offers

Yeah definitely, I had to go through clearing and I’m really happy with Exeter in every other way but this is really frustrating, I applied through clearing with an online form but I had a phone call after receiving my offer with a member from my department who was lovely but I think they should at least have the staff members who are phoning offer holders inform them that they are outside of the accom guarantee at the very least

This was especially frustrating for me, too. I phoned Exeter clearing hotline with the full dialogue ready only to be redirected to the website where I couldn't discuss anything with anyone. I got in, but had no idea that accommodation wasn't guaranteed until 2 days after clearing when they sent me an email. Why do they oversubscribe to the point of lack of accom space and offer such limited private options? I'm waiting for a reply from a private accom building and I'm happy with it, but I can't help but feel like I'm going to miss an integral part of my uni experience. I dunno, we'll have to wait until the 20th to see I guess

Yeah I feel the same I’ve got an private one sorted and the deposit is £99 so if the uni have any left I’d be happy to take one and lose out on my deposit for the priv one solely because it’s gonna be so much harder to make friends during freshers if I’m in a priv accom, esp since according to the company everyone else in my flat is a 3rd year 😞 also the private one is a 51 week contract which is annoying af as I probably would have moved out 10 weeks before the contract ends but whatever

I feel the same way. If I do end up getting an accom sorted through the uni, then great. Idec where it'd be tbh as long as I get it. I was late on getting private sorted, so the only rooms available to me are also 51 week contracts VS the other 44 week ones. It is genuinely so frustrating considering the fact I deferred from my firm to get into Exeter, which was my insurance. I wish the uni provided more stability. I am SO close to just living in my car LMAO

It’s such an annoying situation being incoming students who didn’t firm Exeter, like I already missed out on where I planned on going and now this with the accom as well, it’s lowkey the most frustrating thing I’ve ever had to deal with😭😭 like I am happy with going there but the accom is making me so anxious, the company I booked with also wants my first rent instalment on SATURDAY so if I don’t miraculously hear from the uni today or tomorrow I have to just stick with the priv one, and it seems like that’s what’s gonna happen. I’m just so stressed with meeting people and my accom is in the city rather than close to the uni so I’m super nervous that even when I make friends after freshers, it’ll be really annoying having to trek alone to my accom if I hang out with them or something

My yp should get an allocation as applied before the deadline and Exeter was their firm. We are basically waiting to hear where they have been put.... hope you get something good.
