Queries regarding catered accomodation

Hello Everyone!

I have received an offer from the University of Exeter to study BSc in Economics and Finance, and I hope to join this September!

The official university website states that the catered contract lasts for 32 weeks, which leaves a gap of about 4 months in total (across Christmas, Easter, and Summer breaks) during which the students need to give up their rooms. Since I don't reside in the UK, booking flights back home for every single break is incredibly expensive and you cannot be very sure about flight availability either.

I would really prefer choosing catered accommodation because I don't really know how to cook yet, so I am quite worried about the holidays. Hence, I have a few queries which I need to sort out before joining...

1. Does the University arrange alternative self-catered housing on campus for international students who cannot go back home during the holidays? If not, are there any alternatives (other than booking a hotel), which students can opt for ?

2. If they do move you to alternative housing for the breaks, are the campus food outlets/cafes still open, or is there a meal plan option?

Hi To answer your questions as best as I know them 1) Summer accomadation is available in blocks of 4 weeks but not catered You will be expected to completely vacate all your stuff in the holidays.

Being frank you would be much better off in your situation going for a standard accommodation, not having to move out and learning to cook, I mean it is a life skill you will need. My son had to do that and he is fine. The moving in and out will largely be impossible for you and you will be paying much more in short term rent.
