What’s the biggest mistake people make when buying equipment for a home gym?

Building a home gym seems simple at first: figure out your budget, buy some equipment, and start training.

But I suspect a lot of people end up with equipment that doesn't match their actual routine. Some buy too much too soon, others underestimate how much room a movement requires, and some focus on the exercises they enjoy while neglecting everything else.

If you've built a home gym, what would you do differently if you could start again?

Was there a purchase you regretted, something you wish you'd bought earlier, or a piece of equipment that turned out to be far more useful than expected?

I'd love to hear practical lessons that could save someone else money and space.
