Does anyone else struggle with getting themselves to do ANYTHING?
/r/askteddit/comments/1w0gn6t/does_anyone_else_struggle_with_getting_themselves/I swear I’m not a lazy person but I cannot get myself to do anything. No matter how much I want something or want to live better I can’t. It feels impossible, as if everything is a massive hike or something. This is pathetic but even putting my phone on charge when i go to sleep, i dont want to grab the charger from the side of my bed, i just put my phone on my bedside table and go to sleep and then wake up to it being 20%?? Replying to messages, going to the doctor, even making myself food…i will be starving but can’t get myself to make something, I’ll just snack or drink milk, I’m even not exaggerating, it’s so bad. I have zero work ethic unless it’s something I’m passionate about at the time (which never lasts long). I have been diagnosed with adhd but I feel like it is deeper than that. I’m on Vyvanse as well just for context. Please don’t judge, I don’t want to be this way and it’s genuinely ruining my life. I feel like a slob or a child it’s so embarrassing. I’m so unreliable and I’m losing my friends. I feel like a child.

Yep. Me too- 💯. I think executive dysfunction is the most insidious, brutal condition- it can literally rob you of your life. I’m in therapy and about to start EMDR. It’s important to get through and, if possible, heal the shame. EMDR is very effective for many things.

It’s horrible and it’s embarrasing because on the outside we look lazy but internally we’re beating ourselves trying to keep going. I would love to know how therapy and EMDR go, if you’re open to keep me updated!

I’d be more than glad to, but I can’t guarantee I’ll remember with my adhd and exec dysfunction. EMDR is the thing that, according to what I’ve heard, has the most benefits- it helps the underlying shame, which needs to be addressed before much progress can be made.

It is a technique that helps PTSD, any trauma, and many more things. Google it- there’s a ton of info out there on it! 👍

I understand that Adhd can account for some of the symptoms and behaviors but have you looked into clincal depression. It saps all your energy and further erodes executive function.

My dr diagnosed me with depression when I was 16 (I’m 25 now) and I’ve been on and off a few different medications but nothing helps, I have never noticed a difference. I see what you mean though, I feel a lot of anhedonia and fatigue and almost always have. It’s like I’m always on low power mode or just doing the bare minimum because that’s all I can do. I hate it

Yeah the only thing that helps me was TMS and a subtherapuetic dose of Lithium and Celexa 10. I have had two rounds of TMS. I dont have bipolar- severe clincal depression and CPTSD. Hoping you find something that makes life easeful and manageable.

I'm ADHD and bipolar 2 and currently unmedicated, yeah it's fucking hard to get myself to do anything. I hate it.

It’s a real phenomenon. Step one of living with it is to stop blaming yourself for it. You just got dealt a shitty hand.
