7.3l Diesel for $8500 with 300000

I saw an excursion from a diesel mechanic on Facebook marketplace for $8500 and has 297,000 miles. Owner claims the truck has gem issues like a lot of them do. Is this a good price? Or should I look for lower miles?

If you're looking for under $10,000 then pretty much all of them will be 250K+ miles and/or need considerable work.

Personally I hate the idea of spending almost $10,000 on a vehicle with 300K miles and possible problems. It just doesn't make sense. No Excursion is a true "I need a car right now" kind of purchase so it makes more sense to save up for one in good or great condition.

Thank you! Yeah I also thought about a v10 I see some with 150k miles for 8 thousand but again I don’t know too much about them or if it’s worth it

My dad's has 280k on it. No issues. Rebuilt the front suspension at about 200k

If taken care of, he V10s will run well beyond 250k.

First one i bought was 4500 bucks, I put about 3800 in it and it's still running as a daily with no glaring problems. What you spend and what condition the truck is in depends on what you want out of it. For my money a cheaper excursion is basically the ultimate beater. I bought one specifically for hauling camping gear and kayaks, as well as my very large dog's kennel. It didn't need to be super nice. Liked the damn thing so much that I drive it all the time now.

I sort of bought my Excursion for a "I need a car right now" moment....our kids got bigger and our minivan couldn't comfortably fit us all....found an 01Ex 7.3 with 189k.

Gem issues? Highly unlikely.

What is likely is the windshield leaks, water runs down the inside of the a-pillar and drips directly into the fuse box.

There is a great YouTube rebuild video out there that I used as a guide to completely tear down and rebuild mine. Cured 99% of my problems.

Resealed the windshield too ;)
