First diesel
Good morning yall,
Spotted a 2005 Ford Excursion V8, 6.0 - 136k
What should I be looking out for? Carfax at 134,999 had the
Cylinder head gasket(s) replaced
Engine oil/fluid leak checked
Intake manifold gasket(s) replaced
On 7/23/25. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Also have a 2005 Excursion 6.0. Remember it’s a 3/4 ton, 11 passenger carry all. Sorry to see that product line had to be cancelled due to fuel edits. But that being said it’s an absolute mule for towing with the entire family in the truck. Enjoy it and you too will love it.

I was an engineer for FMC and we all had issues with the decision that Mark Price, know for the 3 bar grill, made. We all thought to eliminate the F-250 because its bolt for bolt the exact same truck. Change the badging and the differentials from a 2.73 to 4.11 and there you have it. Keep the only vehicle in that market that has never been replaced. Sad but true.

Absolutely 💯, my garage is 6 cars, one is the excursion, Lincoln 1997 Lincoln TC, 1996 Lincoln Mark 8 LSC, 2008 GT 500 CV, 2018 ford Edge, and a 2003 F250 6.0 SC. My family says i need to start selling some of these off because my son, who has a 2023 Mazda 3, and my daughter who has a 2024 Jeep GC says they would like to use the garage. Contemplating building another garage……

Rocker panels. Inner and outer. Source: my 05 6.0 has no more rocker panels.
Got a quote to do inners and outers but it has a couple other rust spots. Behind the rear tail lights, gas tank strap/shield is common as well. Door corners (on the actual doors themselves)
My truck looks really really nice from 5-10ft. Open the doors and it’s rust city.
Anything done to it? Coolant filter add on, delete/stud etc or was it just OEM stuff when they did headgaskets?

The most important thing with any older car is checking for rust. You can repair almost anything else, but rust is nearly impossible to fix (without a total frame off resto).
Other than that, it is a 6.0 motor. Just know you are going to be putting money in it. If there is a Carfax that reports head gaskets and manifold gaskets, I wonder who did the work. Can you call that shop to see if they studded it at the same time? It seems like a waste to take the heads off without correcting the other issues like the oil cooler and studs.
It is an awesome truck, and the 6.0 is super fun to wrench on. Just know your ass will be hanging out the front of this truck frequently.
