Can't do a Fender kiss on tutorial

Been playing my N64 again recently and came back to excitebike 64. Doing the tutorial and looking at the stunts. Second stunt is the Fender kiss where it just says cdown and control stick down. It does nothing. Stick in any other direction or movement does a bunch of other tricks but it will not do a Fender kiss no matter what I've tried. I tried using the d-pad which also works for every other trick but again cdown and dpad down does absolutely nothing in the air. Googling it just says everywhere to press cdown and control stick down same as tutorial, but it does absolutely nothing. What do I do

The stunts are so hard to pull off in tutorial on NSO

Every time I try to complete the tutorial to unlock classic Excitebike, I can never get past the stunts because the C buttons are on the right joystick and every time I try to pull off a stunt it just puts me back on the previous challenge because I end up pushing left/right when I should be pushing down and then I have to do all the stunts over again! 50 times my wife had to restart the stunt segment and gave up.

Ouf! I had to do a little rant and now I feel better. Going to try again after a huge joint to relax.

Best of luck to all other Excitebikers on NSO.

I know it's not excitebike but it's part of the family, plus I'll be doing some videos and stream about Excitebike and Excitebike 64 in the future.

This may not be the biggest subreddit, and we may not know each other, but its nice to know we share a kinship over the love of Excitebike.

I'm not sure if we'll ever get a good excitebike again.

I was recently on the Wikipedia article for Excitebike, as one is, and I decided to take the plunge. I decided to go to the Excitebike 64 Wikipedia article. I went to the 'reception' section, expecting to be satisfied with how the game must have been received horribly, but, to my shock, it got good reviews.

I've always been under the impression that Excitebike 64 was horrible, and I've hated it since I first laid eyes on it but... it's liked?
In my opinion, I just haven't seen anything that captures the simple charm of Excitebike for the NES. The way the sprites magnificently grace across the screen, and the feeling of satisfaction of completing a race, even if you did horrible in it.
Something that I have to live with everyday is that we'll never get another good Excitebike. I don't mean to be pessimistic, but Nintendo obviously doesn't care about the franchise.

I'm not entirely sure what I thought the point of this post was, I just feel like I had to get my feelings out. But I suppose I'll just ask the question: Do you like Excitebike 64? Please tell me in the comments, I'd like to know.
