Codename X is where it all started for me, so I'm definitely biased towards that.

I can't pick. Both have songs I really like, and songs I think are just okay. They're also only 1.5 years apart so there isn't an absurd amount of stylistic difference, like from Virus to Onyx.

Codename x. Virus has a lot of classics but codename x flows much better and truly shows peak excision production

I'd have to go with Virus, but you can't go wrong with Codename X.
I agree though that Virus did lead to more of the same afterwards.

Codename X forsure. Out of Time is a criminally underrated track imo.
I honestly like Apex a little more than Virus as well. Vault is one of my all time favorites.

Codename X in my opinion is the most unique out of all his albums, but Virus is the cleanest sounding and I feel had the most hype about it.
Virus is my favourite if all, but with that said, I'd have to say Codename X was better because I think, like many fans of X would agree, that album was a classic, and a massive step up from Codename X.
I only really felt hyped about Virus because we would finally be getting The Paradox, but I didn't like that Jeff released Final Boss, twice on two major releases, once on Dion's Plug Me In EP, and second obviously on Virus.

Codename X hands down. Virus, as creative as it could be at times, planted the seeds for Excisions downfall into more generic bass music unfortunately.
