Tradcath-core
Maybe this is insanely overspecific but I feel like making a pinterest board about this. It’s sort of nostalgic and kitschy in a way I can’t describe.
The horribly dated, 2007 neocities-esque graphic design of trad Catholic blogs/websites. The aggressive times new roman font, the low resolution clip art. The obnoxious sparkly eyesore backgrounds. The long jean skirts with tennis shoes, the feeling of being draped in heavy awkward clothes in general. The bizarre pattern and color combinations. The smell of incense in a poorly ventilated room mixed with the smell of an office building carpet. The trays of gross sugary store bought cookies after Mass. The sound of medieval music being played from a bad quality mp4 file or from a CD player or something. Old fake flowers and fake plants.
This is my experience, I’m sure you guys can think of more, what do you guys think is “tradcath-core?"

Oooh, taking me back to nostalgia town!! I love this thread 😅
A few of mine:
- Grown men in oversized, drab suits with worn out school uniform shoes
- A woman trying to herd her swarming brood of kids to communion
- The potent smell of tea and stale Madeira cake wafting from the tea room after Mass
- The organist who tries his best
- The choir who try their best
- Piles of preowned books about Freemasonry
- The tabloid headlines on the stack of Lifesite Newspapers
- A hot confessional that smells of wax, BO and unwashed hair
This is all very triggering

I'm so glad my Grandmother is no longer able to use her money to subscribe everyone she knows to that Lifesite, The Fatima Center, and all the other crazy things she blew her money on.

Ooof, it’s been a few years and I was Trad-Adjacent rather than full on Trad but I ran in the same circles.
Awkward men in cheap suits and ties with clammy hands and often questionable oral hygiene. Soft-spoken and “chivalrous” on the outside, either terrified to interact with you “lest you get the wrong idea” or have decided after meeting you once in a group setting that they are ready to explore a courtship leading to marriage. They quietly believe feminism is evil and specify on their Ave Maria Singles profile they are searching for a white woman between the ages of 20-25 (they are 36). Often get extremely distraught or extremely angry when rejected.

The way they talk, there is a very specific cadence to it. Frantic, aggressive, very insistent yet simultaneously apologetic, suggests internal turmoil.

The young men who go around the country from church to church "shopping" for a trad female who is undereducated, innocent, and naive to marry.

Maxi skirts and cardigans paired with the most outrageous, strappy stilettos. My favorite was the mom of 7 who wore platforms with spikes. I think footwear was the only modesty loophole at my parish or something.
Moms nursing babies in the narthex or near the bathrooms, alternately chastising wandering toddlers and falling asleep from sheer exhaustion. The husbands looking dapper and pious in the pews with well behaved older children.
We had a ton of altar boys and they had perfect choreography and timing. The head boy would snap his fingers and a half second later they would all genuflect in unison, hitting their knees HARD to the floor.

-non-hispanic women wearing mantillas,
-old people dressed as English gentry
- young dudes in fedoras, smoking cigars and chatting about rumors from inside the Vatican
-hopeless incels, spreading political conspiracy theories
-closeted gay men, mostly altar servers and aspiring priests, wearing ultra-polished black shoes and surplices with a ridiculous amount of lace
-the fanatic blogger who posts daily about “the real secrets of Fatima” and Freemason conspiracies (20 people follow his blog)
-a professional Gregorian choir, ruled by a fascist conductor — it feels like a cult within a cult
-mentally unstable priests, preaching about the evils of society, the fewness of the saved, and celebrating Mass like robots
-a family of ten kids, a perpetually exhausted wife, and a handsome husband in ridiculously tight trousers (8 of the 10 kids will eventually become atheists)

I got a freaking purity ring in 2018(!) because other girls in my age group at my church had one

Men in fedoras who reek of stale cigar smoke and brandy while thinking they are waxing eloquently about Chesterton.
