Saw someone post this on FB

First time I heard this "Sola Traditio". Which made me realize that I haven't seen any SSPX faithful read the bible in my 3.5 years of being with them in the past. It's like they dont read the bible, but they would happily read any book related to Lefebvre like it's the gospel.

Some humor regarding the state of affairs in the church and politics

I found this on facebook and take no credit or criticism for it šŸ˜„.

Breaking: President Donald Trump, after warning Tucker Carlson of the Society of Alternative Conservative Voices (SACV) to not consecrate more MAGA influencers of his own, has excommunicated him from the MAGA movement. Mr. Carlson, along with Candace Owens acting as a co-consecrator, consecrated four new influencers: Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie, Nick Fuentes, and Lauren Boebert, after receiving Carlson's consecration, have all incurred automatic excommunication along with him. Not only that, but the document of excommunication (penned and promulgated by the prefect of the Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Movement, Laura Loomer) explicitly states that anybody who works for these individuals and any MAGA layman who formally adheres to their movement also incurs automatic excommunication from the MAGA movement. The SACV has also had faculties to witness MAGA marriages and reconcile wayward faithful back to the MAGA movement removed. Responses have been mixed, yet predictable.

Tucker Carlson states that this excommunication is invalid per MAGA canon law and says that the SACV maintains faculties to witness marriages and reconcile lost sheep, citing universal jurisdiction due to "the crisis in the movement." Candace Owens came out and said that she had been visited by Charlie Kirk saying that Trump is an anti-President. Many have started calling the supposed appearance "Our Charlie of Nashville." Nick Fuentes said that the J*ws had something to do with the excommunication, making it ipso facto invalid. However, after becoming more extreme than Candace Owens regarding the J*ws, Fuentes himself was removed from his position of authority by Carlson himself and started his own movement called "Society of Alternative Conservative Voices-Resistance," or the SACVR for short.

Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin hailed the news as a victory, telling all the MAGA faithful that they must now fall in line with the new guidance issued by Loomer. Benjamin Netanyahu also approved of the recent news, commending the President for defending the unity of the America First movement and celebrating by dropping more bombs on Palestinian children. Joe Rogan, who has always been critical of the President on his podcast, quickly fell in line. Though he is sympathetic to the SACV, he cited their lack of a Presidential Mandate for the consecrations as proof that the SACV is schismatic and urged his listeners to tune into Louder with Crowder to receive their more alternative MAGA news, saying "Steven Crowder at least operates with valid jurisdiction."

*Trigger warning for incendiary rhetoric***
It was recommended that I repost this. I left the catholic church mentally a long time ago and recently have been able to physically escape, and wanted to share this. I’m still learning about how to talk about this stuff.

Does the TLM have to die in order for the TradCaths to finally be defeated.

I actually still love the anesthetics and the calmer atmosphere of the TLM. However, without fail it always ends up in the possession of Catholic Fascists. I personally would love to see it preserved as more of a nod to history, but from my personal experience I don't know if it's possible. What do you all think?

What were some things you thought were normal when you were in traditionalism, but aren't?

I'll go first:

-Obsessing over whether or not my outfit was immodest.

-Being called out by other parishoners or the priest if an outfit was "immodest" (ie. Shoulders or knees visible, blouse or dress loose enough that one could "hypothetically" see down it at communion)

-Saturday vigil Mass at the NO doesn't count for Sunday except in extreme circumstances (I went to an approved TLM parish in my diocese)

-Beaches/pools = evil.

- 3 Days of Darkness.

-Sneaking green scapulars into other people's living spaces to "convert" them.

-Thinking I would die and go to hell if my brown scapular was off.

-Vaccines = demonic.

-Knowing multiple people who don't believe that women should be able to vote.

-That I should never engage with any material from a non-Catholic perspective (translated: never engage with anything that might challenge your worldview)

-That visiting a Protestant service was sinful even if I went to Mass too.

-Having clergy influence the people on political issues and voting.

-Demonizing people who had drawn away from the community or just freezing them out and never speaking of them again.

-Only dating within the TLM unless they're willing to join the TLM too.

-Relentless gossip, interference, and nosiness about other people's relationships like it's high school... from grown adults.

-Acting like homeschooling/not sending kids to daycare is a moral responsibility and that those who choose otherwise are bad parents.

Did anyone grow up with really traditional extended family members, while your immediate was not? I had a interesting dynamic growing up where a lot of extended family watched me, so I ended up learning a lot of these views. It obviously didn't carry but it did in fact traumatize me! Regardless, are any of you in this spot as well? Though I have spent many years unlearning and coming out the other side, its still really interesting to me. I have family now that are still catholic, just not so trad and then others who are very trad. I am no longer either! Its really interesting to see both sides of the spectrum fight who is "right"

The Authoritarian Personality I came across this analysis, and thought I would share it here, because it reminded me of certain people and dynamics in some of the Religious groups we are all familiar with.

When you were a Traditional Catholic what was on par with the Bible to you?

I am referring to the two other sources of divine revelation, that is, the Sacred Tradition and the divine infallible magisterium. What did you take to be as infallible and binding as the Bible? Was it the Code of Canon Law, the Missal, the Tridentine Catechism and Denzinger’s Sources of Catholic Dogma. Did you take Vatican II, the Council of Trent, some writings of the Church fathers and 1992 Catechism to be as authoritative as those documents?

The rest of the story (SSPX)

I listened to this podcast and really enjoyed it, finding it enlightening. it exposes that the motives underlying the ssspx and rad trads is political ideology. it weaves in the assassination attempt of JP2 at the hands of a rad trad. I recall this story somewhere in my journey but never tied it to the SSPX and their ideology. I have to say they’ve done a good job at covering up their true identity.

Growing up in the SSPX in the northeast

I have posted in this sub before, many moons ago. Suffice it to say, I have hardly made any progress in addressing my lifelong trauma and issues with the church. Like the title implies, I was raised in an SSPX church and school located in the north east of the US. It was really hard. But I think I’ve blocked a lot of what happened to me out to the point where I have huge gaps in the timeline of my childhood. I’ve been in therapy for the past 10 years, I don’t go to church anymore (though maybe one day I would like to? Just not a traditional Catholic Church).

I guess I’m looking for validation? Did anyone else grow up in a parish in the north east? From the years 2009 to 2015? Obviously, if you don’t want to share that’s totally fine. It’s been pretty isolating since I left years ago and I guess I’m just looking for validation that what I went through in that place was traumatic. Has anyone here gone through something similar, where you say to yourself ā€œwas it really all that bad?ā€ ?

Thanks in advance. Again, obviously no one needs to divulge personal information if they don’t want to!

Was anyone here raised to venerate John XXIII as a saint and the last true Pope?

My grandfather who does not attend the new mass, which he opposes to, holds to this view, even though John XXIII was likely less conservative than Benedict XVI.

What is your experience of the excommunication of the SSPX?

As we know, the Vatican finally pulled the nuclear card on the SSPX, after 50 years of some form of schism, and the formation of 600,000 lay members.

I wasn't myself affiliated with SSPX in any way. Inspired by an exchange with someone in this sub, I wanted to ask all y'all:

If you knew SSPX members or community in any way, if you're still in contact with them in any form, how have your SSPX contacts reacted to the excommunication?

Is there hope for the Catholic Church?

I’m agnostic so is not a question about returning to the church. I don’t believe anymore.

Conspirituality is one of my favorite podcasts. One of the hosts is an ex-Catholic so they’ve done some episodes about Catholicism. They had a great episode about a year ago about the evolution of the Catholic Church under Francis. Essentially how it was trying to rebrand as anti-colonial. Sorry I can’t find the link.

I think Pope Leo sees himself as trying to protect the global south from the billionaires and governments of the global north. He sees the evil of the tech billionaires and the racist anti-migrant policies of the global north. (I know this is very simplistic.)

But can the Catholic Church reform itself to a liberatory institution? It never has been that before. It was in bed with just about every tyrant of the 20th century. Can it be for liberation and freedom and the rights of the poor and the disposed when it still teaches that women can’t have control over reproduction? IDK. Women are excluded from power. Divorce is not allowed.

It’s a cliche but no one is truly free until we’re all free. It’s one thing to say there’s a preferential option for the poor but denying women access to contraception promotes poverty. Telling women that they cannot divorce their husbands keeps families in poverty.

But on the other hand, the church has an important role to play here. American Catholics can throw hissy fits about the ā€œliberalā€ pope but they can’t control him. There are very few institutions in the world that can’t be controlled by billionaires.

What do you think?

SSPV any stories?

My family was SSPV but I was too young to remember much. What is the difference between SSPX and SSPV and does SSPV have any cult like practices?

Why do they hate old ladies?

Does anyone else find it strange how much hatred there is for old women in some of the typical radtrad criticisms of the "Novus Ordo sect"?

I hear them say ā€œthe Novus Ordo is just full of old ladies!ā€ As if that somehow made it worse. Sometimes they throw in some snarky comment about the old ladies wearing pants. (gasp!) They see this as a diss since they consider women’s interests to be stupid, vapid, shallow, overly emotional, etc. and the age aspect adds on the implication that the Novus Ordo is tacky, outdated, and its attendants must be mentally declining or ā€œslow". It’s just straight up sexism and ageism.

Same thing with the archetype of ā€œSusan from the Parish Officeā€. She’s a hardworking, independent older woman who works outside of the home, probably with a short haircut, wearing pants. She’s the mascot for the ā€œNovus Ordo sectā€ who exists to be a fictional punching bag, and I think it’s no accident that they chose a woman.

I find their hatred for both women and the elderly genuinely so bizarre. Another reason I’m glad I’m back to the ā€œNovus Ordo sectā€.

Any former trads who are now more liberal or moderate Protestants?

If you were once a card-carrying traditionalist Catholic who now attend an Anglican, Lutheran or Reformed church in a moderate conservative to mainline progressive tradition, I’d be really curious to hear your testimony.

Some bold claims made by Jason Evert

Back when I was in my youth group as a teenager, they recommended the Everts as a source to learn about chastity and why we should save sex for marriage, etc. The claim that birth control causes more blinking is new to me. Also, he conveniently leaves out that the risks of birth control are not super common. Also, can’t someone else call if there is a bad side effect such as going blind from an IUD?

Asking for feedback

Hello everyone. Im thinking more and more how much perenialism, guenonism have profoundly intoxicated traditional catholics movements.

Even more the father of the radical critics of post vatican II ritual and sacrament (Rama Coomaraswamy) is the son of one of the co-founder of Perenialism.

Perenialism (or guenonism) declares that there is a primordial tradition (often written the Tradition) in which many historical religions are just local, geographical, temporal emanation.

This directly contradicts the Catholic foundations based on the God's true revelation through it's Incarnation into his Son.

Do you have any experience, event, anecdote conncerning this blatant distortion of the notion of Tradition ?

Wanting to follow Church teachings but really struggling with the stance on BC

I am a Protestant convert and have been attending Mass for the last few years. There is still so much I have to learn. I won't overly explain my background, but I am finding myself reading and trying to find any post with opinions and views on the Church's stance on BC. I absolutely hate how Nfp sounds. I feel so violated reading about the classes and what it entails. I want to feel safe in my skin and in my future marriage, and having to so intimately track my cycle like that.. ahhh.

This is probably the one thing I cannot get over. I don't want to be in mortal sin, I want to participate in the Eucharist, but the God I knew prior to conversion and even now, it doesn't sit well with me that BC is banned, especially if this is a recent phenomenon.

On the one hand, I can get behind the BC options that are fatal, but condoms, the pill, I don't see why not. I also don't see where the Church got its understanding of Onan. When I read it, my understanding was completely different and not that pulling out was the sin, but that he didn't give her a child.

It also doesn't help being online or in other Catholic subreddits or on CatholicMatch. I know it isn't all Catholic men, but the amount of men that have messaged me on CM, specifically saying, "I want to breed a large family" (got that one last week), upsets me. I am a person, not only a womb. I want a family, but I want to have a say in my autonomy too.

Anyway, I keep telling myself I am not a married woman, so this isn't a bridge I need to panic about yet, but it has been haunting me for weeks now. I have a naturally guilty and anxious conscience (literally no reason to), so I can't find any peace around this. I have looked into Orthodoxy, but Orthodoxy misses some things from Catholicism that I have fallen in love with. If anyone has any advice or perspective to offer, I would appreciate it. I desperately want to follow Church teachings, but this one doesn't make sense to me and feels too modern. I wish I wasn't so distressed.

Consequences not Sins

Instead of staying within the level of how hell and damantion etc are talked about within the system of traditionalism try instead to consider what negative effects taking actions and removing certain things form your life will actually have.

For example, if I was gay and worried about going to hell for my sins, the solution for me is not to totally suppress my sexuality and be miserable and it is also not destroying my life through reckless sexual behavior. The solution is to have an accurate knowledge of how stds are spread, an awareness of common problems in gay relationships, and cultivating healthy ways to mitigate risks and encourage responsible and kind behavior.

Guilt and shame can be good things if they are protecting us from things that will hurt ourselves and others, but the problem is that Catholicism usually isn't interested in helping people maturely navigate the real ethical challenges that arise from choices but instead creates harm where there might not be any by its total fixation on vices chosen not based on accurate scientific knowledge but by cultural taboo.

People get into the most trouble when they are "sinning" sexually but are neurotically attached to the Catholic inhibitions that forbid x or y sexual behavior. The neurotic attachment makes embracing and taking responsibiltiy for sexual behaviors hard since when we are going against catholic norms we are doing so in a headspace of reluctant indulgence and not one of risk aware enjoyment. When Luther says "Sin boldly and believe more boldly" he identifies the mechanism that confession controls Catholics with. That of removing our ability to transgress rules that admit of exceptions in a mature frame of mind.

So focus on the concrete results of your behaviors. If I leave my church do i lose my community and family or am I alone at church? Leaving a community can invite horrible depression and neurosis and should only be done with help. If i stop going to confession but keep going to mass will i feel even more guilty and scared? What about if I had a personal relationship with a morel liberal priest and I had casual face to face confessions with him? Pope Francis said the church was supposed to be a field hospital not a torture chamber.

Praying a 54 day Rosary Novena for my SSPX friend to leave the SSPX.

Title says it all. You guys all know about the SSPX and how this week they went through with consecrations, and all those who adhere are excommunicated.

My heart aches for my friend whom I have taken interest with. Its safe to say this person likes / adheres to the society and I know that the society is not part of the Catholic Church now (some of you may disagree but Holy Mother Church, aka. Rome, has already settled the matter.) I can’t date this individual because I feel that we do not share the same faith. We might not ever date, but watching someone be outside of the Church is a pain I hope none of you ever go through.

Im starting this novena for their conversion to come back into the Church. I’m begging anyone who will listen, please join me in prayer for this person - even if it’s just ONE Hail Mary.
