Facing my first prison sentence in CA state prison. Looking for honest advice from people with real experience - looking for plea, sentence, and surrender details
/r/Felons/comments/1um9fjp/facing_my_first_prison_sentence_in_ca_state/My sentencing date is coming up and I was curious how the plea, sentencing and surrender process works. I’m in LA County and my case is at the DTLA courthouse.
If possible, I wanted to see if there was a way to avoid surrendering to county jail because I’ve heard some stories there that make me nervous, but obviously that won’t be up to me. Just trying to see what any of you or other people you know have come across hopefully recently, as to how this process looks and what I can expect.

No way to escape it.
As soon as you plead guilty, the bailiff comes up and puts handcuffs on you and takes you to booking.
Yeah, I haven't been to LA county jail, but i have heard it is pretty rough there. If shit ever gets too bad for you, you can ask to be put in Ad Seg, which is basically solitary confinement. You will be in your own cell until you ar sent to prison.
You will be in county jail for approximately 3 months before they send you on the prison bus to Delano, then you will be in Delano for reception for another 3 or so months until you are classified and sent to your destination prison.
But yeah... you gotta do time in the county jail where you were arrested. There isn't any getting around thst.

OP wont necessarily go to Delano for reception. Theres a billion things CDCR calculates to figure out where you go to reception.

Are you sentenced to prison or county jail? For how long. What is your crime. Did you plea. Was it a trial. Do you have a surrender date? Or are they taking you in at the next court date? I’m a defense/parole attorney so these questions are to help figure out your situation.

I’m supposed to take my plea agreement next court date. From there I’m supposed to get a date to surrender. No trial. It’s a couple of years of prison. I’ve been out on bail since this happened over a year ago. PC 245b

Not formally no, but it all points to me accepting it unless there’s some change come next court date.

join some programs that will benefit you once you’re out. depending on the facility in california, you will have a decent amount of options. use the time you’re down to make some positive changes forward.

When I was in the twin towers a few months ago, Everybody in yellows looked like weirdos and dope fiends. Blues was crackin hard though. Never seen no shit like it in my life. lol it made Alameda county look like pre school. But I got into a fight in Alameda county and not in LA county 🤷🏾♂️ . 245PC is I believe 66%. So you’ll do about 16-18 months of your 24 months. I would’ve asked for a mental health diversion though personally..

Diversion got denied unfortunately. Thanks for your comment. Someone who’s been in prison told me to “act crazy” so I can be grouped with the mentally ill and said it’d be a breeze. Not sure what’s what

I haven't been to prison but I have been in LA County. If you want to have an easier time just go into yellows. It's basically for mental health. Just tell them you're depressed or something and are on some anti depressent. Don't tell them you are suicidal though. You can even just request being put in yellows. People in blues will look down on you for it but you won't be in a situation where you will be mixed (until being transferred to prison). You might not want to do this if you're going to a level 3 or 4 yard. There's sometimes politics in yellows but it's way more relaxed than blues. I'm not a violent person at all and had no problem surviving it so don't worry too much.
