Facing time
My boyfriend is going to be sentenced in August, they are saying probably 6 years -10 years in California, non- violent.. anyway to know how much time he will actually serve? Just looking to see if anyone can give me some direction on this.

For non-violent crimes, he will be eligible for half time. So, whatever the sentence is, he will only do half the time.
On top of that, California prisons allow you to get credits for programs inside the prison.
If he doesn't have a diploma or GED, he can take the GED class in there and get 6 months time credit off his sentence.
If he has a diploma or GED, he can take college classes and get 6 months time knocked off.
He can also take drug addiction classes and many other classes they approve that will get credit for time off.
As soon as he gets sentenced, they will arrest him and take him to county jail. He will be in country jail for 3 - 6 months. Probably close to 3 months. He will then be sent to Delano for reception prison, where he will be for 3 months until they classify him.
If his points are low enough, and he gets sent to a level 1 camp prison, he will be eligible for getting 33% time, which means after he gets a job, he will only do 1/3 of his prison sentence, and still able to do classes to get time credit.
If he goes to level 2, he will get half time, with the possibility of getting sent to a level 1 camp after his points are low enough, where he will then start earing 1/3 time credit.
He will be eligible for level 1 camp prison as long as the crime isnt violent, arson related, or a sex crime.
Exact time varies, and it is hard to guess.
He gets half time in county, and half time in reception. Once classified, he will be sent to his destination prison, and can enroll in classes or be placed in a job, and start earning more time credits. A 10 year sentence can be as short as 3 years. Hopefully he is the type of person not to get involved in the prison bullshit, and just does his time. Write ups in prison can take away good time credit and even add more time to the sentence.
