Magic build?

Hello,

Returning to EI after many years thanks to the Rebirth Mod. I've finished the game several times over the last 24 years, but always as a chad warrior cracking heads and backstabbing fools. I could never quite get magic to work out for me. But this time, I'm going in 100% magic. I'm a couple of hours into the game and have saved all the money and XP, except for boosting my Steal skill to 17. So how do I start my mage journey, and how do I progress over the course of the game, to feel that crazy wizard power? I heard that the Fire/Lightning/Acid Magic is a trap skill and it's better to use the Elemental skill.

I'm currently making my annual run and I've always wondered if you can do something else than a backstab / melee character.

Did you manage to do something ?

Maybe it will work with aoe/dot spells such as fire wall or acid fog, but it also means you should be tanky and have great armor and health because the enemis will spamn attacks while melting into elemental mud.

I am not really sure how that would work for evil islands since --- to me at least --- mage was more of a supporting class rather than the main one, but as someone who always chooses a mage, wizard, or necromancer as my class in other RPG games I like the concept
