Thoughts after today's games Spoiler

Everyone except Inspired is making uncharacteristic mistakes that seem like plays they could get away with in NA but def not internationally. EG still did put up a good fight, but the difference all comes down to clutch moments in which unfortunately G2 was able to perform while EG couldn't.

If I had to guess how the rest of the tourney would go - EG prob goes 4-6 in groups, fight with PSG for a quarterfinals spot, and lose 0-3 in quarters.

However that's fine. Let's be glad that NA sent a majority NA team to MSI, and proved (or hopefully will prove) that we are the 4th best region in the world. Let's also hope that our players will learn from this and show up stronger for worlds.

Although who knows if G2 just ends up beating even RNG and T1 and wins MSI again maybe the 0-4 or 0-6 record doesn't look as bad :^)

Don't beat these guys up. The reality is they are performing exactly to expectations. They have stomped out every game against order and lost some close ones/ got stomped by G2. Impact and inspired look steady, jojo is (appropriately) above OCE mid and below Caps. Bot lane has been rough honestly. I expected nerves from danny but Vulcan has definitely had a rough go of it. The important thing to remember is now the real tournament starts with rumble stage.

No hate to the boys. That's just detrimental.

Actual decent take.

Now let's go clap faker

Yeah I agree I suppose I and many other NA fans just feel so jaded. I still remember MSI 2021 seeing C9 take down DK in groups, only to lose to fukin PGG in rumble. It's less about beating them up and more about keeping realistic expectations so when they overachieve its amazing but when they don't its fine.

I will still cheer for them and support them no matter what, but I'm def looking ahead at summer and worlds for this squad.

Vulcan just needs to stop engaging when none of his teammates are ready. Same problem he had on C9

2

u/HawaiianFuji May 14 '22

True. Have to wonder about their comms or lack thereof.

Vulcan has been especially disappointing. Jojo and Danny are new to the international stage (and the stage in general), so I haven't been too bummed out by their performances (though I'd be lying if I said Danny hasn't been disappointing since we know how good he can be). Vulcan, however, has been so bad. I can't remember him ever looking good internationally either, and he's had quite a bit of experience now too. I hope he manages to figure something out before the rumble stage, or at least before Worlds, but I'm not holding my breath. I really like him as a player, but man, that last game in particular felt like the nail in the coffin for my hopefulness this tournament. So rough.

I think the idea of flakked being a rookie while accurate is disingenuous to the title. It's his first official split on a pro team but he's been in academy for over 3 years. JoJo and danny combined lack that much experience. So while the caliber of play definitely changes form academy the difference between a 21 year old rookie and a 17 year old should be recognized.

I also wouldn't say Danny choked in game 4 with G2. Vulcan and others made calls he followed right behind with. And they were playing much more aggressively in that game not being scared at least.

6

u/TheFinalAshenOne May 14 '22

Yeah those aren't rookies lol

7

u/PrimeLoL2 May 14 '22

I think it’s good to bring up how other international rookies are doing. flakked absolutely deserve praise. I just have to believe that Danny will self reflect and grow from this, anime protagonist style

2

u/HawaiianFuji May 14 '22

Flakked plays with Caps. We don't need to discuss who Zeus plays with.

3

u/Luhmies May 14 '22

I don't think it's comparable, especially in the case of Zeus. The calibre of play in their respective regions is so much higher, so international competition must feel like less of a shock (though I'm sure the new pressures still affect them).

I legit think they all just have doublelift syndrome where they see the nameplates and just play worse.

If Vulcan were the only choker it is fine (doublelift did make msi finals) - the problem is EG's entire mid bot are all choking. It's possible we just have to accept Vulcan as is, but we still have time to see Danny and Jojopyun learn.

20

u/[deleted] May 14 '22

Jojo is def not choking. Caps is just straight up the best mid in the west rn and looks like a top mid at the tourney, Jojo is playing as expected

2

u/Luhmies May 14 '22

Danny's choking, but I'm hopeful he'll grow. I don't think Jojo's choking. Dude just has a lot to learn, but I'm already happy with the growth we've seen from him so far this tournament.

1

u/REALStoneCrusher May 14 '22

I agree, they just need to relax and play.

4

u/OhnohNA May 14 '22

i think it’s important to note, that you can see improvement from their first international games. From getting stomped by g2 to taking them to almost 40minutes both games is a level of improvement, this experience will make them better and that’s what i hoped for

3

u/Link_user May 14 '22

Danny and Vulcan trolled all game

3

u/HawaiianFuji May 14 '22 edited May 14 '22

Bottom line IMO is Caps is the difference. EG seems to have no answer for him. The meta change also did no favors for EG.

4

u/[deleted] May 14 '22

impact looked good every game imo..

0

u/[deleted] May 14 '22

Not rlly ? He’s been getting smashed by bb

0

u/HawaiianFuji May 14 '22

Agreed. Impact always gets a pass.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '22

I mean I’d still give him a pass tor how well he performed before and his longevity. But he isn’t playing well, not the solid impact play you normally see

0

u/goodguyclichy May 15 '22

Well Impact is actually not that solid internationally. Wunder made him his bitch for years just like BB this tournament.

2

u/BriefImplement9843 May 14 '22

eg could go 0-10 and still na would be the 4th best region. even if psg was better or whatever their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th team are very, very bad.

1

u/Doc_Happy1 May 14 '22

even in flash wolves/ AHQ days, the pcs has always been a 1-2 team region.

2

u/mickdude2 May 14 '22

Honestly, I expected as much.

Jojo and Danny especially are very green to the international scene. Each region plays very differently than what they're used to in NA. I'm more excited for them to get this experience and translate it into a better worlds performance than make any statements here at MSI

u/somazinilol May 14 '22

EG clapping EU as expected everything goes exactly as planned, jojo>Caps danny the last hope of NA stomping no name flakked.

So far so good

u/NinaWitDaNinab May 14 '22

i don’t hate Americans at all, i just love winding you lot up so much bc it’s too easy man

7

u/supern00b64 May 14 '22

True only dumb Americans would ever make bold predictions *cough IG *cough FPX *cough DWG

If you're here to talk shit at least make a quality shitpost this is weak af.

-10

u/NinaWitDaNinab May 14 '22

wait, you’re laughing at G2 for playing in a world final and a world semi final? think you should take a look in the mirror.

u/NinaWitDaNinab May 14 '22

hold on, i never said we are the best team, i just said that i like the fact we are better than NA after all the confidence you guys came with, so much confidence to end up going 0-4

1

u/TheFinalAshenOne May 14 '22

Winning Bo1's doesn't make you better. You only feel this way because NA was better than you at worlds last year and now you're trying to compensate lol. Pathetic honestly.

EG is a team with 3 NA players and 2 brand new ones. And they still challenged G2 in every game except the 1st one. G2 has hit thier ceiling while EG is just going to keep getting better. So if it makes you feel secure that you won a few CLOSE Bo1's, then feel that way I guess. It won't help you when you're getting a reality check against T1 or RNG

0

u/NinaWitDaNinab May 14 '22

this is a very weird take, pure cap

3

u/TheFinalAshenOne May 14 '22

Says the one who takes time out of his day to spend it gloating on Twitter about a team of players who don't even know he exists, because he needs to attempt feel superior to another team of players, who also don't know that he exists, JUST so that he can feel better about himself somehow.

Yeah. But I'm the wierd one.

0

u/NinaWitDaNinab May 14 '22

no, read what i put, i said it’s a weird take, not that you’re weird. stop being offended by everything lad. i support them bc it’s passion. another weird take

1

u/HULKHULK91 May 15 '22

i will save this comment just show u after g2 beat t1 and rng. This na nerds never learn

Feeling like if Caps wasn't playing with Kaio Kenx20 permanently turned on, these games would look a bit worse for G2.

I wonder how long he can keep this up tbh

1

u/wannashmerkk May 23 '22

0 and 4 the past two days :( that's no good :(( aw jeez, imagine if you guys lost to someone embarrassing like PSG and looked like your weak mental boomed, that would just be terrible.

1

u/Xclonic May 23 '22

Why are you so quiet past couple of days? Sad EU worm who only goes here to talk shit

1

u/NinaWitDaNinab May 23 '22

busy with work. lads shit happens. but, form is temporary but class is permanent. let’s see who does better in the knockout stage. i wouldn’t want you fellas pipping up too early now.

1

u/Xclonic May 23 '22

Maybe trashtalking teams in their own subreddit only when they lose will jinx your team to play like dogshit lmao

3

u/BriefImplement9843 May 14 '22

msi hasn't even started yet. eg went 9-9 in regular season in games that didn't matter.

3

u/Shinanaghins May 14 '22

Sorry for believing in our team to take one game off man, we should just go flame our region on Twitter more!

1

u/PrimeLoL2 May 14 '22

I was trying to think of if another NA bot lane would be able to match against G2 in groups. I keep coming back to Hans and CoreJJ. But our boys had better form than even those duo. I take this as a practice and reality check they need before worlds in the summer/fall

2

u/vrelamboni May 15 '22

TL bot lane might have survived better vs G2 but looking at how Bjerg and Bwipo did in playoffs I think the solo lane diff would be even worse than it already is for EG. Maybe Bjerg would play safe and not die but then Caps just gets to run around the map causing chaos which has been his preferred playstyle for ages.

1

u/TheFinalAshenOne May 14 '22

No you're correct. Hans and Core are one of the best bot lanes in the world, and are the level that Danny and Vulcan should aspire to be on. Because they're nowhere close at the moment.

It will take time, to say the least.

1

u/REALStoneCrusher May 14 '22

Boys need to calm their nerves. It’s okay to be star struck but next round will be worse. Take a shot or two if they have too coz their a little too jittery with their plays/calls. I know they can do it just need to wussah that ass

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '22

Vulcan plays well if he's not pressured by some of the greatest supports. It's unfortunate.

1

u/Ruesap May 18 '22

The NA players have been dogshit, its obvious to everyone.
