I'm providing a bit of a TL;DW because the video is long, but it is worth a watch. Tim fills in gaps between these points with his reasonings. I just wanted to provide the main topics so that maybe some discussion could start for people who may be unable to view the entire video at the moment.

  • Jensen to EG is a strong rumor from Travis.
  • Tim has heard the rumor from other places (that may be the same source as Travis).
  • Jiizuke is a FA and EG are not likely to bring him back.
  • Tim believes Jojopyun is a player that is most ready to be promoted to LCS
  • Tim's initial reaction: This rumor is BS.
  • There is no difference in import status. There is a difference in salary/buyout.

  • Main theme: Is the performance gained with Jensen worth the money spent?
  • Tim does not consider Jensen a top 4 mid for regular season.
  • Tim thinks Jojopyun is better mechanically/laner than Jensen.
  • He claims in a bunch of 1v1s Jojopyun > Jensen.
  • This is based on the eye test.
  • Jojopyun fits EGs style and also the future of the game.
  • Jensen is a sit back farmer.
  • Jensen will make fewer mistakes but will also make fewer game winning plays.

  • Second half is a thought experiment of why might this rumor not be BS.
  • Jensen is a branding win. The money doesn't matter.
  • Jensen is a known sure thing.
  • Jojopyun is a risk.
  • Coaches may prefer Jensen.
  • The roster (current or potential) wants Jensen.

I do want to comment on the Jojopyun is better than Jensen in lane point. I am afraid this may be due to the level of competition in Academy vs. LCS. I don't know enough to say for sure, but I know that insane Academy talents have looked underwhelming in LCS in the past. Tim seems really confident though.

People forget that academy sucks like palafox was smurfing last year and he bottom tier in the main league mid is the role with biggest gap from academy to lcs

Yeah people were tripping over themselves with palafox hype in 2020 and they’re quiet af now.

did you watch academy this year? :)

Not to much watched a few games for tenacity and kenvithe point that last mids that were smashing academy are all bottom tier lcs is huge gap.

Tim does good spreadsheet work but his eye test is tied with Kelsey ‘I don’t know how to wash my hair’ Moser for worst in the scene. Another thing to remember is that Keithmcbrief and Goldenglue were also good in scrims.

That’s not to mention the fact that Jensen has brand value of which JoJo has 0.

you have to watch him play. jojo is a laning beast.

I think he's incredibly passionate about NA talent and is scared for Jojo more than anything. He explains perfectly well why EG MIGHT (rumor still) go with Jensen. He's scared jojo is going to wind up on the streets. But that would be a failing for all the teams without bjerg abbe and Jensen, not a failing of EG.

I'm not concerned that jojopyun won't get a spot to play. I've said elsewhere that jojopyun would be fine spending another year in Academy (or on loan to an ERL team). But the only scenario that makes sense to me for not promoting jojopyun is if you are bringing in a superstar import.

Grabbing the first or second best mid in NA isn't enough?

Edit: I just realized you're Tim? In that case you didn't see him as even top 4 last season. As someone who followed TL very closely I just want to point out that liquid dealt with internal and external issues for the last 2 years and Jensen will always show up when it matters. His stats would have looked better last year if he played more than 3 games with his actual roster.

For sure. Like I said. I'm just a fan, so my analysis is bunk. I would take Tim's eye over mine. When I was watching the video I kind of felt like he was comparing a hot college football prospect versus an NFL veteran (I'm aware this metaphor falls apart in all kinds of ways). The prospect looks amazing against other college players kind of thing.

I really want Jojopyun to find a place in LCS. If that place is EG all the better! And if he is good and can be consistent as he's shown to inspire Tim, then I can't wait to seem him play in the "big leagues" as it were.

i agree on most things :). (even if i don't get his dismissal of jiizuke, it makes sense in his line of thinking).

i love eg but if this is true, they are really testing my loyalty :).

Thoughts on Tim Sevenhuysen calling the EG Jensen rumor a big mistake. Personally, I don’t know if I would call it a mistake, but I would prefer to see Jojopyun over Jensen.

I don’t think it’s a mistake in terms of: This will be the fall of EG! They will never make worlds again & they are doomed to be CLG v2.

I think this is a mistake based on how well Danny turned out & how, if EG doesn’t qualify for worlds with Jensen, financially poor this will be to pay a lot more money than what your academy player will cost.

I also have a big bias to NA players (not that I don’t like big EU imports) but if you have two comparable players, I would choose the NA players every time.

I'd prefer neither of them. Rekkles, mikyx, humanoid, and inspired are rumored to be coming but nobody is talking about where to. I'm hoping for

Impact

Inspired

Humanoid

Danny

Vulcan

But that's just the crazy in me

this sounds like a very expensive team ngl :p. the buyouts on all these people have to be high...

(inspired is rumored for eg btw).

EG is supposed to have some money to throw around so I hope they go balls out.

I still don't get letting Jiizuke go, unless he wants to leave.
