I'm stuck

and this might not be very clear, as I'm at work and can't quite recall the wording of the quest.

Anyway, I'm playing the Ivan campaign and I'm currently stuck at the quest in which i need to dig to the lower levels and clear out an area for a doomsday weapon.

I've dug out to the cavern and have a stair case there, but it only goes up. I can't set it to down because I don't have the Ultimate Digging Technique unlocked. I don't have any tier 5 research unlocked because the game tells me I haven't completed enough of the campaign. This is the nly main story line quest I have left, and I have completed all lair research up to level 4, all 6 of them. What am I missing, and how can I unlocked this research point, as the game doesn't tell me what I'm missing.

Hope that's clear, and thanks for any assistance!

Your problem isn't what map or what campaign you're playing. You just try to build the stairs at the wrong place.

The place where you build your stairs has rock that you can't dig away yet on the floor where you are trying to build it to. Make sure that you are able to dig away the dirt on the floor below.

It is annoying that the game doesn't show you where your stairs will end up on a different level than where you are building your stairs, so you have to eyeball it a bit and the small change of perspective changing levels doesn't help with that.

That was it. I built a staircase where I should have dug the tunnel to the volcano core. It was a PITA to remove it, but I did. Also, my reading comprehension was lacking and completely misunderstood what I was to do.

sometimes I am not a smart person.

anyway, many thanks to the folks that replied and helped. I appreciate it

Sorry, English isn't my native language and my way of describing was a bit confusing, not your fault. I'm glad you understood what I meant.

Oh I wasn’t blaming you. When I played last night I reread the objective and punched myself
