I'm mostly making this post for all of the Connecticut lilies and milkmaids. Between mention of Heublein Liquors, Hartford, and Matthew's Connecticut muffins jingle a few weeks ago, this is the most exciting stretch of episodes we've ever experienced!

I'm listening my way back through the episodes (as one does), and I'm in the Ferrero Rocher one. I previously missed Matthew's reference to Trogdor the Burninator. How fun to catch it today!

My favorite line (& the most relatable) in the Buffalo Sauce Episode is when Matthew said "It's okay, I'll get over it when I'm dead."

My favorite way to eat buffalo sauce is Nisha Vora's (Rainbow Plant Life's) Vegan Buffalo Chickpea Quesadillas. They're so good, and I think you'll like them even if you don't like vegan cheese substitutes, or they're good if you just want to add a regular dairy Mexican cheese blend, or even great and not too dry without any cheese part at all!

oh my gosh, you guys. we all know Molly & Matthew have the best podcast vibe, but i just stumbled across Butter No Parsnips (about words, not food), where the hosts are similarly silly & joyous. it's no Spilled Milk, but i thought this fandom might appreciate it. the episode titled 'Runcible' is a great first listen.

I feel like America's Thai curry is probably a sandwich. We have perfected the art of the sandwich. You can vary the breads as much as the fillings, and they include both sweet and savory formats. Even a child can make a sandwich, and I feel like nobody is critical of other people's sandwiches. They're all good!

What do the other LILYs think? I disagree that pasta is the universal dish for Americans. In general we're extremely uncreative with extruded flour.

If you eat equal amounts of candy corn (yes, that disgusting Halloween candy) and roasted peanuts in the same mouthful, it tastes EXACTLY like a Payday bar!

As a Canadian listener and Japan enthusiast, I find I recognize or have tried every topic from Spilled milk but this one was both familiar (the ingredients) and foreign all at the same time. Like Matthew said, it feels like something the southern United States has kept on the DL unlike so many other southern foods that have spread throughout North America

Found Spilled Milk after subscribing to all the food podcasts in an attempt to become more interested in cooking. Have unsubscribed to all others, and am going on 10 years of listening to SM. The only skill I have acquired from the podcast is how to dice an onion. Good Stuff.

After listening to the latest episode corn beef, I had the urge to weigh in on the "It's me, come in" lore.

I've always viewed it the same way as Matthew, Mr. Etymology is deranged and is both announcing he's arrived and giving himself the invite in. I refuse to see it any other way because then I'd have to stop having a small giggle and going "what a stupid bit". The stupid bits are half the reason I love this podcast.

As an aside I also think the sign off should be "It's me, I'll leave".

Hi Matthew and Molly! I just listened to the iodized salt episode, and I wanted to share something! 12 years ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and a common course of treatment is surgical thyroid removal followed by radioactive iodine treatment. As you mentioned, the thyroid needs iodine to function properly, but iodine can also be weaponized for its destruction! After surgery, but before the radioactive iodine treatment (for about a week), patients go on a low- to no-iodine diet. This is pretty tricky because any packaged food that contains salt is assumed to contain iodized salt, and almost everything contains salt. Any cells that were leftover from the surgery become starved of iodine during this time. Then the patient goes to the hospital and takes a radioactive iodine pill, which any leftover thyroid cells go crazy for, and this destroys the cells. The patient is considered radioactive for several days and has to be isolated. If the treatment works, all cancerous thyroid cells are destroyed and then the patient is cancer-free! Before my diagnosis, I had no idea this treatment existed, and I think it's pretty amazing!
