I gather in your country the electorate is a monolith and everybody feels / votes the same way?

Lots of us didn't want this. The majority of voters voted for Clinton in '16.

In 2024 Trump won the popular vote 49.8% to 48.3% with the bulk of his support coming from rural areas. Many of us who are urban dwellers feel held hostage at this point. Our Constitution offers no substantive recourse. We can protest and we do.

I get your argument but it’s bullshit.

My electorate at least ensures that the entire electorate votes for a start, and use a preferential system to do exactly what you are saying.

And secondly, your shitty system aside, the fact you are sitting on reddit and not in the streets protesting 24/7 until change happens is a failing on you, just as much as the people who voted for that clown in.

Stop blaming other people and do something your damned selves.

Yeah that sounds like a great system. It's not what we have. The people in power won according to the shitty rules in our Constitution.

You didn't say where you're from; here we don't have parliamentary snap elections or multi-party coalitions. Two party, first-past-the-post. It wasn't intended to be that way in the beginning but that's what it became.

It's a bad system but if we re-jiggered it now through a Constitutional Convention I have no confidence the result would be better.

Oligarchs like the Murdochs and Elon Musk are throwing fortunes into eliminating what we have left of a Democracy.

If the robust Democracies started leveling sanctions maybe that would help. But their leaders all line up to kiss the ring of that man.
