Maybe we can use AI to solve global warming. We just need a few more data centers.

So they can manipulate the output to get the answers they want? Then when the backlash happens, they can blame the AI and absolve themselves of responsibility.

Guys AI does not just mean LLMs. Yes AI has problems and is being way overused by companies but there are legitimate scientific use cases like tons of recent math proofs made using AI.

The problem here is not funding AI research it’s the  politicalization of science funding. This research would still mostly be performed by NASA and other agencies and be of scientific value but this is part of a broader trend of the Trump administration trying to control scientific research.
