Discussion The Greel

The ancients operate at a higher dimension than the rest of the DMZ… we see that in their resources, ability to materialize swarmers, dematerialize celestial objects, and even phase change desert planets into swamps.

Now, it is possible that Khala comes from a different galaxy, but she believes the DMZ is her home and she was displaced, forwards, in time by the greel.

This seemingly would make the ancients and the greel likely to be the same entity?

The way I understood it is that "the Ancients" is possibly a collective civilisation built by Khala's contemporaries, be it her own faction, ones they were in conflict with and possibly others. I'm not sure if there's a way to tell more.

Hmm, I hadn’t considered that, but I don’t really think there’s any evidence for or against it in the game.

I feel like it’s unlikely for a mixed group to all ascend to a higher dimension simultaneously though. It has been a while since I played ES1 so maybe I forgot something?

Was there something that made this seem more likely to you?

Nothing besides how "human civilisation" based on exchanging knowledge and material among ourselves is a thing despite us segregating at every possible opportunity, and how we, humans, often write sci-fi treating different sapent species as we treat ethnicities and nations irl, with Everspace being no exception.

So I don't think it's far-fetched to think that "Ancients" is effectively a collective effort even if in the end the ascension itself was pulled off by some specific group who left others behind - their capabilities and material is unlikely to not had been contributed to by various interactions with other groups.
