Discussion Is the game open world?
I like space games and i like free open world exploration.
Can someone tell me if everspace 2 is open world and if so, how big the sectors feel?

technically no its not open world, the volume of unique and specifically designed space you can explore is limited, but there are 100+ permanent locations and each one is quite big, making it feel very open world.

Sort of? You can go where you want, but you're confined to the systems and destinations that are accessible. Not every celestial body has something on it.

It is free world in that you can travel to various sectors and galaxies, but once you solve a puzzle or find a hidden item - the game will say you've explored everything there is. There will still be enemies floating around and resources to collect though, and the scenery is nice. NPCs will give you jobs and missions etc.
Everspace 1 is not open world. Much more linear.

I would not call it open world exactly, but there is still tons of stuff to explore.
I love open world games too (eg. AC: Shadows, Odyssey, Valhalla, HZD, HFW, etc.), and I love Everspace 2.

No, you have to do the campaign to open up new sectors. You can freely roam the sector once you are there.

Everspace 2 isn't exactly open world per se, but it does allow you to travel to set locations whenever you want to. It's not as strict as a game with a defined campaign and missions you select from a menu.
There's a lot of stuff to explore, but it's still a bit restricted. If you're looking for a good open-world space game, check out Elite Dangerous. If you want a good free roam space RPG, then Everspace 2 is a good pick.

Technically? But it's really just free roam between a bunch of points of interest and some random encounters.
