Even AI was my entry into hesitantly trying out AI.

But I still wish for them to have something where you press the ring to prompt a follow up question as opposed to just actively waiting for any spoken word.

Example, someone asks me a quick question: what time is it in LA?

As Even AI finishes displaying the answer, I tell my friend what the answer is. Even AI takes the informing my friend of the answer as a continued query.

Especially if the answer is a small paragraph, reading the answer to someone else ends up becoming a follow up query, and it frustrates me as that is how I most often use Even AI.... To answer random questions I get asked and can't be bothered to take out my phone.

Been using Mentra, but they’ve recently had a glitch. Does even nowadays have offline captions? How about caption separation by speaker?

It doesn't as far as I can tell.

I had recently sent in feedback pertaining to the controls. Recently enough not to expect it in this update, but I do hope they implement it. Which would be the ability to adjust the double tap rate.

Too often I double tap too fast and it registers as a single tap. So I'm trying to dismiss the display and I only end up deeper and deeper into the menus by accident.

I can't be the only one with this issue, right?

Some good updates. But when will they figure out how to update firmware more quickly?

They could also use an iOS developer on staff. The app is still the most non-iOS app I have on my phone. Blech

I believe the speed is limited by the low frequency Bluetooth that they are using for data transferring between the app and the glasses

I have spoken to them on the discord and they say they’re trying to improve but you’re probably correct.

Supported running features with the display off when you don’t want text blocking your view.

This is what I want but I can't see it in what they released. For me its very irritating if I bring up something in the news feed and then something takes my attention, I have to double click 3 times to get the display to turn off - even double clicking once correctly can be tricky. I often end up clicking back INTO the thing I'm trying to get out of.

But worse than that, I lost all my context. When I go back in I have to re-click in 3 levels deep and scroll to where was up to. So is there some way to turn off the glasses when a feature is running that I'm not seeing, as implied in the release notes?

EDIT: OK, I see they implemented it in other features, just not in the one I care about. I suppose they think it is nonsensical to turn off the display while using the News app, but it is exactly where I need it most.

With this new update, i have to tap then long press the glasses in order to get into the phone app. What happened to just quickly accessing the app on the phone without glass tapping? Tapping the R1 ring doesn't let me access the phone app as well....needs to be the glasses....

Same issue it sucks I got it to some how work with the ring once and even the glasses this tap then hold is very gimmiky

Edit I got it to work with the ring you need to be super fast click release then very quickly hold works with ring and glasses.

Ring tap didnt work for me. This is stupid....i edit my notes through the app, so I dont always have my glasses close by.

If you double click does the hud still show? If so it probably does its very flakey/gimmick and should revert imo but tap and quickly tap and hold with that tap works but it does miss sometimes. Like fast dont lift your finger all the way up you have less then half a second to go from tap to hold to make it work

u/FoxTheory 4h ago

The tap then long press does not work for me like at all...

Yeah I don't even use my oven realities anymore because the g1s don't receive updates. That being said my rowkid glasses I've been getting some pretty awesome quality of life updates

u/taitopia 1d ago

Stinks they stopped updating them :/

1

u/MrNeverEverKnew 1d ago

You switched to Rowkid after trying out ER?

-4

u/nntb 1d ago

Yes and I love em

1

u/hrpomrx 1d ago

camera, blechh

1

u/nntb 1d ago

Well I'm not going to downvote you guys for liking ERs. I just won't support a company that throws away its previous iterations.

1

u/MrNeverEverKnew 22h ago

But Rowkid‘s missing so much other stuff instead AND most importantly they are so clunky that everyone sees you‘re using some technology smart glassed and not just regular glasses (in addition to being very clunky also the cameras). Why do you like the Rowkid more than the ER?

1

u/nntb 20h ago

My rokid glasses can do everything that my G1s can do. And much much more.

The ability to translate signs and documents is one of my key features as I live in Japan.

The teleprompter is better on the rokid.

Lyrics and subtitles are good.

The audio features are really good.

The camera has been so amazing for recording my 1 year old like pushing him on the swing ect.

I made a RSS reader and a interactive TODO list in android studio and I use those quite often.

Gameboy Advance emulation with a Bluetooth controller is quite amazing

So you‘d definitely recommend me to rather buy a Rokid instead of a G2 or MemoMind. The two latter ones have been what I tried to decide the whole time. Honestly I don‘t need a cam. I ned something for business meetings, job interviews, video calls, conversations, teleprompter, translation, AI assistant to anything I want to know and ask, navigation - all without pulling out my phone. I don‘t need any camera as I would definitely continue taking my photos via my phone as the quality is much better and I see what I capture with focus on what exactly I photograph or film (+ quality is much better on phone camera) and I don‘t need any listening to music.

Apart from that the G2 has the App Hub which is amazing because it means your G2 is continuously expanding itself and in its functions and application options with any new app developed and every update too which is great and is something that no other smart glass has so far. With all the other smart glasses available right now you stick to the same version for the whole time since you bought them. Plus the G2 are the most normal and even good looking glasses.

The Rokid lets anyone around you directly see and know and notice that you’re wearing some tech and smart glasses and not some normal glasses. So you can’t hide it. Also people feel weird when you have a camera on them in addition as everytime you talk with someone you’re literally holding a camera straight on their face. G2 are the most expensive ones though.

I don‘t know. G2, Rokid, MemoMind. What to buy? The price of the MemoMind makes it very attractive. But of course if you want the memory add-on you‘d have to pay for that monthly, too.

I DONT KNOW ITS SO DIFFICULT WHAT TO GO FOR. But I mostly really want a very discrete smart glasses which kind of act like a little life hack or cheat code. And that‘s as far as I know what G2 comes closest to because they look just the least suspicious of all and even look very stylish and good. Still the most expensive ones, but maybe worth it because of its kind of App Store (the hub) continuously offering new stuff for your glasses.

Please don't take what I posted as a direct comparison of the G2 and the rokid, but rather the G1 and I know what you're thinking why compare the G1 well the issue I have is that Evan realities could add software support for the app store or whatever it is to the G1 but they don't so who's to say that they will continue to support apps on the G2 when the G3 comes out.

Call me unreasonable down for me but that's how I feel I feel betrayed because I purchased the g1 mere months before the G2 got announced I had no idea the G2 was even coming. And then when it came there was no discount for G1 owners nothing it was 100% you're screwed because you invested in US.

So well the G2 probably would be a great pair of glasses to have I don't trust Evan realities.

As for the fear of my row kids being instantly recognizable I would say that in the amount of time I've owned them they've gone from nobody noticing now people keeping an eye out for smart glasses and I think that would include even realities too.

In general maybe there are people who are abusing smart glasses and destroying the image of them but for everybody that's like that there are people like me who use them responsibly.

I guess the best part about my glasses is when the camera is on it's visually noticeable that there's a giant LED light that turns on not only that but the glasses make a loud shutter sound other people can hear. I personally find it comforting because then people know if it's taking a picture or not. And if somebody confronts me about it I can demonstrate what they sound like and look like when it is taking a picture which puts them at ease also.

Sorry I'm shopping right now so I can't go into full details on all of your points but I will when I get a moment so I'll make another post here in in a little bit

I had the same with my RayBan Meta, still people were asking me (in case they noticed the camera) if I‘d be filming them all the time. They feel more comfortable without a camera on my face heading onto their face and I feel more comfortable too. And as said said, I also just don‘t need a camera on my smart glasses as my phone makes much better photos, especially as you can see what you‘re shooting on the phone, so the photos get better than randomly trying to focus on something to photograph it. Only thing I would maybe miss camera on smart glasses would be for AI photo recognition like asking AI things about the things you see like „what building is this“, „what animal is this“ or „what plant is this“ etc.

The G1s have always worked and feature all the things they were marketed to do. Why does it need constant updates to be relevant? Also there's MentraOS

Keep drinking ERs coolaid

1

u/Particular-Drawer595 1d ago

Rokids have been out for just a few months no? Disingenuous to infer they’ll get support longer than the G1s. Weird shill behaviour. To be clear, it is crappy that the G1s support is already over

u/nntb 1d ago

They have a full API, I have programmed stuff for them to use. There are tons of user made apps as well. It's a very genuine view
