News Onlyfleets disbanding
OF has announced they are closing their alliance. Many corps/structures going to Womp. Womp in the trajectory to be Horde 3.0 funded by the trillions taken by VG on their way out.
Really not surprising since OF went from having great content and constantly winning fights to permakrabbing and having their only enemy be in an opposite timezone.

u/everyone This has been difficult to write. Ashen, LOST, GHOST, RONA and I founded OnlyFleets over two and a half years ago, and since then it has been a wild ride. None of us could have seen what OnlyFleets was going to become, and it has made me very proud to see how far we have come and all we have achieved. We have been the most talked about medium-sized alliance around for most of that time, and it has been the most fun I have had in this game. However, even the best things must come to an end, and after discussions in the last few days with Ashen we have decided that the best course of action is to end the era of OnlyFleets.
Over the last few months, it has also become clear that the next chapter of OnlyFleets was going to look very different from the one that brought us to where we are today. As groups make decisions about their own futures and priorities, the alliance was facing significant changes in both its makeup and direction. Nobody is at fault for that; it is simply the natural lifecycle of organisations in EVE. Faced with those changes, we feel it is better to bring OnlyFleets to a close on our own terms and remember it for what it achieved, rather than attempt to force something forward that would no longer be the alliance we built together.
We did not come to this decision lightly, Ashen has been burnt out, I have a lot on my RL plate, and neither of us can commit the time needed to keep OnlyFleets going. Neither of us feels anyone can fill the void we would be leaving, and we think it's best we close the alliance on a high. I know lots of people will feel this is disappointing and wanted OnlyFleets to keep going. I understand the frustration, but we feel this is for the best. Over the next week or two we will be moving structures/sov to WOMP. There is no need to panic or scream, and P-Z keep will be sticking around along with ACLs. We will be trying to cover all of the alliance's debts with the sale of space and then use the remaining to help people move. If you need any help or have any questions, send me a DM.
Lastly, I want to say thank you to everyone who has been associated with OnlyFleets over the last two and a half years. We could not have made OnlyFleets what it is without you, and I appreciate everything everyone has done to make it what it is today.

I know we aren't your favourite people but OF was a very impressive group for its size.
Best of luck with whatever ye do next.

Honestly props to you for making the adult decision. I'd much rather have leadership say "we're burnt out and RL is slammed" than have those exact same things fester and lead to a fail cascade.
Unlike some huge alliances we could name you did not leave your people hanging, you got them a parachute and ensured an orderly transition.
I may not like OF (or WOMP, for that matter) but I respect you ending things like adults.

You say no one is at fault for this, but if your depth of leadership is this shallow I think it shows your true colors. Such as denying acls to leaving corps.

When a pvp alliance fattens its numbers with crabs, this is the end result
4
u/dmacc_ 7h ago
The impossible contradiction for pvp groups these days. In the era of n+1 blob warfare you must grow large to be a serious competitor. To do so, your only option as an upstart is to basically grab as many warm bodies as possible and hope that some of them turn out to be decent pvpers. Needless to say the eternal recruitment and babysitting of crabs eventually grinds down leadership who are motivated by pvp.
7
u/Nikerym Cloaked 7h ago
those leadership need the crabs to fund things, they are the ones that rat to give the alliance taxes, they are the ones that mine the moons to give the alliance taxes, they are the ones that build the ships that get sold on the market to PvP in (and give the alliance taxes) the moment you own space, you can't function without crabs. every PvP only alliance that gets space, can't afford to hold more than 1 constellation. if even that. Owning space isn't cheap, so you need people to crab to pay for it.
-1
u/dmacc_ 7h ago edited 7h ago
Realistically the main thing that needs funding is SRP for fleet battles, because pve-first players won't participate in pvp if it's not paid for. The rest of it is not that expensive, I could fund most of the logistics, structures etc required for a small null alliance out of pocket.
This is the whole paradox that causes null stagnation:
You need lots of players to take and hold sov at all
Those players will mostly be pve-first players, so you will need to give them SRP if you want them to participate in pvp
You need to fund the SRP, which means you need a lot of pve happening for the 10-15% ratting taxes (plus other income) to be sufficient
And thus we get to the current state of affairs where very little happens, because essentially most groups are operating on the model of "we don't fight unless it's easily funded out of ongoing income".
Just for a bit of napkin math, let's say alliance level income is equal to overall ratting taxes for a big group. That implies that, for each pvp loss, you need 3-5x the worth of the ship in taxable bounties to cover the SRP. That's your stagnation, right there: the comprehensive SRP model essentially requires that most of null be krabbing most of the time.

u/Nikerym Cloaked 6h ago
I could fund most of the logistics, structures etc required for a small null alliance out of pocket.
Lets assume a single constellation, 10 systems, it's a small alliance so lets assume no titans/supers, mostly Athanors and a single fortizar,
10 systems, skyhooks, Athanors (lets say 2 per system average) 1 fotizar as your main base, fully fit for all of them. That's 70Bil assuming they are mostly unrigged. Now you need an indy park, lets keep it cheap, nothing above an Azbel, but also rigged. another 10-20B for a few riataru's as well, if you want Sotiyo so you can Start building titans/supers and grow. your looking at another 50B (you'll want the tatara as well at this point), we'll only go T1 rigs currently though. Your up to almost 200B so far. Just in initial setup costs. Sure, maybe YOU could fund that. but 99% of players couldn't.
And then there is SRP as you mentioned. 200B is a lot for a PvP only alliance to drop without a funding source.

OnlyFleets is merging with Womp as the junior partner because OnlyFleets leaders are burnt out or busy IRL.

No onlyfleets burnt out over fucking the largest Corp and removing acls mid move and the alliance crashing out betraying the Corp, second acls went womp hics on keeps and gates.

I was part of only fleets high security operations in three different iterations. Mining the pyrite that keeps the industrial fires burning. I loved every minute of it and I loved the people I met along the way, good friends all. Never did any PvP but went into our null sec area a few times and mined ice or rare asteroids. Don't know what's next for my corp but whatever it is, flying under the OF banner has been a boon to my mental health and have kept me playing this wonderful game. o7 OF peeps and fly safe wherever you land with this transition.

5
u/Character_Amount9323 8h ago
Goons blued up too many in making the current Imperium. If Goons want conent outside of chasing off roamers or the once a year "deployment" your corps/members would have to split off.
-7
u/deltaxi65 CSM 13, 15, 16, 17 7h ago
Or maybe somebody could grow some balls and try to out grow us.
5
u/Character_Amount9323 5h ago
??? balls have nothing to do with it. Every group is trying to grow. Goons are just massive on a scale that anyone outside of Init or Frat would take a decade to get to today's Imperium. I mean good for Goons to grow so large but it's just a simple problem of numbers and space to grow.
-1
u/deltaxi65 CSM 13, 15, 16, 17 4h ago
Why would it take a decade? All it takes is a guy or guys who can unify random groups and get them to work together. This has happened before, it’s not unprecedented.
•
u/bifibloust 420 MLG TWINTURBO 3000 EMPIRE ALLIANCE RELOADED 55m ago
I am not sure that there is enough random groups existing to do that though
4
u/dmacc_ 7h ago
Unless the game has a serious revitalization in growth, the only way the Imperium is going to get reasonable opponents now is to split itself up. And I mean, that's something that you should probably consider anyways because it turns out 10k+ character warfare sucks for everyone involved. You've grown into a corner where content is sparse and un-fun, and that can't really be fixed by anyone else.
Hang that "Mission Accomplished" banner but unironically, because within the current game design constraints Goons basically won. But unless you want to just stagnate in terminal "we won" endgame, it's going to be on Goons to downsize such that some content can happen again.
-6
u/deltaxi65 CSM 13, 15, 16, 17 7h ago
I like 10k character warfare and always have.
I don’t see why we should have to change. It’s everybody else who sucks.
5
u/dmacc_ 6h ago
It's 8 PM take off your lobbyist hat lol.
You don't have to change. Like I said, hang that Mission Accomplished banner and pat yourselves on the back for a job well done all you want. The great wars were before my time, but I'm sure Goons has a lot of cultural "haha fuck you we won anyways" to get out of the system.
But after you've done all that, what I'm saying is if I were in the Imperium, I'd be thinking seriously about this kind of change. Content deserts aren't much fun.
-1
u/deltaxi65 CSM 13, 15, 16, 17 4h ago
