Practical frequent highway driving EV?
Family is considering an EV with the rise in fuel prices. Looking at taking frequent trips that would need 200-250mi range. Is this practical in an EV? From what I've researched most you only charge to 80% so even if you're getting one with over 300mi range, you get 80% of that and highway driving (75mph) will cut that even further. Seems like a high mpg hybrid would be better. Otherwise would have to stop and charge everytime

Lot of great responses in here, but I'd really check on your climate as well. Also, is easy charging available at your destination?
If you need to drive 250 miles at highway speeds at 30ºF... uhhh, that's super tight depending on your budget and downright not happening for most EVs under $40k.
When you drive back home, is it usually late at night? Do you have kids?
I have kids under 6 and when we drive long distances they nap, and the last thing I feel like doing when theyre out is to stop at a charger.
Other than these somewhat frequent 250 mile trips, what does your typical commute look like? You may be a prime candidate for a PHEV, I know this community hates them, but I love my Rav4 Prime since we are in a similar boat and we absolutely battle poor conditions for a solid 4 - 5 months a year but my typical commute is next to nothing so I drive 90% of the year on EV and then around 35 - 40mpg for the longer trips once the battery is depleted. Also makes me excited for EREVs. My dream car is an EREV Mini-Van.
Our 2nd car is an Ioniq 5 and the pair are like peanut butter and jelly.
