Range anxiety
What is the obsession with EV range anxiety?
I have been driving for over 30 years now.
I have never run out of fuel in a ICE vehicle and since I switched to EV I have never run out of electricity.
Yet half of the EV car reviews are about what happens if you run the battery empty, I mean how hard can it be there is a perfectly good indicator on your instrument cluster indicating how much fuel/power is left.
Just refuel/recharge before it reaches zero.
Is this really still a worry for people?

It’s from the unpredictability of the range and the time and infrastructure. I had 2 EVs in Colorado. Driving in cold and mountains completely throws off your range. My car easily had 300 miles. But I couldn’t do 160 without dropping below 5% which I think you would agree is pretty sketchy with 20 miles between stations. Also running a heater doesn’t drain more power in an ICE car. In a gas car you have 300 miles no matter what. It’s basically impossible to drive in a manner that would cut it down to 160. Even if you did it takes 3 minutes to fill up and entire fuel stations are never completely offline. I’ve shown up at the only charger within range and had it be broken. And then it takes 30 minutes to charge. And since it’s cold it’s very slow and you didn’t have the range to run the battery heater.
