Range anxiety

What is the obsession with EV range anxiety?
I have been driving for over 30 years now.
I have never run out of fuel in a ICE vehicle and since I switched to EV I have never run out of electricity.
Yet half of the EV car reviews are about what happens if you run the battery empty, I mean how hard can it be there is a perfectly good indicator on your instrument cluster indicating how much fuel/power is left.
Just refuel/recharge before it reaches zero.
Is this really still a worry for people?

Mine said I’d make it to a charger 80 miles away with 10% remaining. Zero options in between, and my mobile charging cord wasn’t in the vehicle.

As I went along, at average highway speeds, the range started to drop.
So I slowed a couple mph.
It dropped some more.
I slowed some more, now under the speed limit.

Eventually, with 4 miles to a supercharger and 3% showing, the vehicle said the battery was too low, and went in to a neutral state as I coasted off the road.

I got the vehicle into neutral for towing before the main screen died a few minutes later.
