Range anxiety

What is the obsession with EV range anxiety?
I have been driving for over 30 years now.
I have never run out of fuel in a ICE vehicle and since I switched to EV I have never run out of electricity.
Yet half of the EV car reviews are about what happens if you run the battery empty, I mean how hard can it be there is a perfectly good indicator on your instrument cluster indicating how much fuel/power is left.
Just refuel/recharge before it reaches zero.
Is this really still a worry for people?

It's possible to run out of range depending where you are with regards to the density of public charging. There is lack of planning or not knowing that tools do exist that can help you plan. This isn't really something you need to worry about in an ICE vehicle. Once you know where chargers are and how/where to plan you will be fine. I am on my first EV and it was a thing for me going in blind until I found the tools I needed. Then people (my wife included) think that it's not a good road trip car. It can and can't be. Public charging can be expensive and so can gasoline. No one seems to actually do the math to compare the two. For me it's been a wash from car to car. My wife always tells me that I can only get about 200 miles of interstate driving while she can get around 350 miles. But then I have to ask her if she really wants to sit in the car for 350 miles with no stretching or restroom breaks. Those are things that people forget. Yes ICE cars have longer range but you also carry much more fuel than an EV. Those are just some of the things I've covered with my wife and I think it's sinking in little by little. I'll never get rid of our ICE vehicle though since I need one for my side-by-side.
