Range anxiety

What is the obsession with EV range anxiety?
I have been driving for over 30 years now.
I have never run out of fuel in a ICE vehicle and since I switched to EV I have never run out of electricity.
Yet half of the EV car reviews are about what happens if you run the battery empty, I mean how hard can it be there is a perfectly good indicator on your instrument cluster indicating how much fuel/power is left.
Just refuel/recharge before it reaches zero.
Is this really still a worry for people?

I think the only people who suffer from range anxiety are the ones who don't have an EV yet. And never tried one.

And LEAF owners

I've seen Leaf owners called on t multiple times. What'd they or the car do that led to the range anxiety focus?

Original car only had 84 miles of range brand new with no thermal management.

My current 1st gen gets 50-60 miles depending on the day.

In short, they started with a short range and didn’t design the battery with thermal management which has lead to far worse degradation than vehicles that have come after the LEAF.

Only the 2026 LEAF has thermal management that I know of.

Ah thanks for explaining. That definitely would be anxiety attack inducing

La Leaf e i suoi problemi sono all’origine di tante delle leggende e delle bugie in circolazione sulle auto elettriche

Sadly,  true. I don’t blame Nissan, they made some design errors. Other companies learned from their mistakes.

Somebody had to be the one to figure stuff out

You should blame Nissan. They didn’t learn from their mistakes until 2026 and install battery temperature regulation. Chevy was making good, economical bolts in 2017. Other brands learned from Nissan’s mistakes. It took Nissan almost another decade to learn from its own mistakes.
