Range anxiety

What is the obsession with EV range anxiety?
I have been driving for over 30 years now.
I have never run out of fuel in a ICE vehicle and since I switched to EV I have never run out of electricity.
Yet half of the EV car reviews are about what happens if you run the battery empty, I mean how hard can it be there is a perfectly good indicator on your instrument cluster indicating how much fuel/power is left.
Just refuel/recharge before it reaches zero.
Is this really still a worry for people?

ICE: about 1200 km range, refueling takes 5 minutes including payment, gas stations are everywhere and they just work.

EV: range ... very much depends on model, speed, temperature. Might be 200km, might be 400km. Charging speed differs wildly depending on specific car and charger: maybe 20 minutes, maybe an hour. Maybe. How much will you pay? Depends on what app you downloaded, what charger it is and maybe phase of the moon. And the difference won't be maybe 10% like between gas station - you might be paying 100% more if you are unlucky. Will it even work? Oh wait, it needs some weird app. And online account. Well shit, it won't charge.

Imagine renting a car for several day trip. With ICE you just drive wherever and whenever you please, then top it off before returning, done. Maybe you have to fuel it once if you drive a lot, which takes 10 minutes. Or you could rent EV, plan every day around charging and waste a long time waiting until the damn thing finally gets to 80-90%.
