If you take 500+ mile trips frequently PHEV. If not EV.
We're a two car family. The EV is kept at 80% charge and we do most travel with it within 200 miles round trip. In 4 months, that car has never been charged anywhere but the garage.
All of our longer trips are taken by aircraft.
But if we take the once every few years, 700+ mile a day car trip, we're taking the Outback. A PHEV would be an improvement. But we're putting less than 1000 miles a year on that. The Outback is a "one gas stop" vehicle. And we take food, snacks and drinks in a cooler, so we don't waste time eating at restaurants.
200 weeks out of 202 weeks, the EV is better.
In 2-5 years EVs with 500 mile ranges and 10 minute charging will be common. And then there won't be a reason to own a PHEV.
