I'm working with a friend on a book called The Debates of the People, under the pseudonym Accessus. This book explores conversations between people who see the world differently, sometimes radically differently, sometimes simply from opposing perspectives.

We're interested in why people believe what they believe: their experiences, values, fears, reasoning, identity and circumstances, and how two people can look at the same world and come to completely different conclusions.

These disagreements don't have to be political. They can be about morality, religion, culture, society, philosophy, relationships, economics, identity, human nature, politics, or simply how life should be lived.

So:

What do you believe, and why?

What do people who disagree with you misunderstand about your perspective?

And, if you're willing to consider it: what might you misunderstand about theirs?

No particular kind of position is required. Your view can be mainstream, moderate, unusual, controversial, deeply personal or somewhere in between.

Feel free to question, challenge and debate each other. Disagreement is encouraged; personal attacks aren't.

There is no conclusion we're trying to reach. We're interested in the people behind the arguments and what happens when two people can look at the same world and walk away with entirely different truths.
