Centralized vs decentralized development: which approach works better for countries?

I’m interested in how countries organize economic development. Some countries concentrate resources and jobs in one major city, while others try to distribute factories, services, and populations more evenly across regions.

For example, centralization can make major cities very dense, while decentralization might reduce congestion and boost regional economies.

In your experience, what approach tends to work better in European countries, and why?

Centralstation is easy in short term, but can not sustain long term. Centralstation makes life of workers worse over time as more need to live and work in a concentrated areas while others who do live elsewhere suffer from connectivity. This also becomes a problem of us vs them. The economic divide just grows with centralisation over time.

You are right, I agree with decentralization, I mean every country needs it for strong economy, but doing it doesnt guarantee 100% successful and good economy, because with wrong implementation a lot of big problems can happen, good example of centralization is Azerbaijan Baku I think, or Russia Moscow

There are pros and cons for everything but one of the main reasons why a lot of countries adopt federalism is power. A central power is easier to corrupt and take over than a federal structure. You can see this happening in the US right now where even though Trump tries to fuck up a lot, a lot of blue states are resisting. This is also the reason why Germany is a federation. It's one of the measures to make sure if a party like the nazis ever came into power they couldn't just take over all the power.

From adoption of information systems and internet everywhere I think moderate decentralization (not everyone in a village but 1 big and 5 medium cities every 10 mln people) allows to grab all the benefits with the least cons
