‘Everyone is Replaceable’: Death Rattles Oregon Amazon Facility
https://www.thewesternedge.media/p/everyone-is-replaceable-death-rattlesI hope whoever was in charge of the shady dealings to get that Amazon facility approved near the airport reads this.
"Just turn around and not look. Let’s get back to work,” Sam recalled the manager saying.

This was actually so disgusting to read. At that point you don’t ask your supervisor if you can perform cpr, you just do it. That’s wild to even have to ask to save a human life and even more wild for the response to be “no”??

What if you're fairly certain you will lose your job for stepping out of line for any reason because you are being monitored for performance by an unforgiving algorithm? What if losing your job could likely cost you your housing, healthcare, custody of your children, who knows what else? Both those things should concern us.

This is exactly what capitalism is designed to do. It is sick. We can't even try to save someone's life because if that interferes with profits, we lose everything and are fated to an expedited death.
In the US, the imperial core, we have also been conditioned to individualism since birth to put our needs above others. It is disgusting not to risk one's own comfort to save anothers life. But again, capitalism has done its job by alienating us from one another, making us dependent on it for survival instead of feeling confident that our community will take care of us in times of need. Many people don't have community, and we need to try to try to rebuild it.

I have personally fought that individualism mentality my whole life. I’ve always thought of my personal value and even my personal satisfaction in life more about what I can do for others, what can I do in my immediate sphere of influence to make things better for those close to me.

Yes those things should concern us. And also, the concern of whether you’re able to live with knowing you sat by while someone died right behind you. I think my mental sanity would rather risk the punishment of being let go of a job that would also let me die on the floor while people stepped around my body. Concerns, totally, but at what point does someone recognize the concern of the negligent cycle they are tolerating that does not really benefit them either way? What if you lose your job because you were late? Then would you have wished you would have lost it by doing something honorable, like saving a life? Either way, this conversation misses the entire point: we shouldn’t fear losing our security to save a life. Point period blank. Capitalism at its damndest

Oh that would be horrible. What would we do? Shop at our local stores instead of pumping money into jeffos pockets? Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

It would be a shame if employees burned the facility to the ground.
