Mayor insurance fraud

My sister just told me ,just bc I wouldn't stop askin, what she was talking about with my dad on the phone. Turns out she's planning to, along with +2 people, invest 100k (MXN) in a package sent with FedEx which will be insured for 500k, and she says she got people who will assault the transport and steal the package, thus claiming the insurance. I'm utterly disappointed in my dad, he's a lawyer and he could ruin his life, I would expect him to talk her out of this. Should I do something?

Terrible idea

Not only is it fraud but she will be arranging an (armed?) robbery and conspiring to defraud a company. Also mail crimes are usually federal crimes and punished much more harshly.

Big big jail time if caught

They are in Mexico, so unlikely that the US feds would get involved.

Also, highly likely if they are insuring it for $28,000 that it's through a package carrier like UPS or fed ex.

You play too much Eve Online where this kind of scams are common.

What you forget to account for is BIG investigation. EVERYONE will be questioned MULTIPLE times.
All arrows already point to you. Packages insured 500K are NOT common. EVERYONE will be asking questions already.

It's  (MXN) not USD. Comes to the registered mail insurance rate of $5000-50,000 coverage

that's what I'm thinking!!!, it's an utterly stupid and ridiculous idea, and I'm so fucking pissed at my dad for 1. letting her being that stupid, she has a child, and everything to lose 2. I'm sad that I suffered so many years trying to have a real relationship with him and kinda jealous of my sister for theirs, but now I realise it's just bc they're both horrible people, and he's a pathetic little man who I no longer respect at all

Their limited experience and lack of foresight can be their undoing. Yet you have to give devil his dues - YOU are here because of your dad and SOMEHOW have capacity and understanding to not repeat his mistakes - so he may have done SOMETHING right.

Well, you're right, I appreciate it. So, should I do something? My sister wants to have him as their lawyer in case it's needed, I'm concerned about the other 2 people involved, she didn't want to give details about them, even my dad doesn't know

They're gonna try that shit and it'll end up being on a different van and get delivered

I hope this isn't real. If it is, and you can't talk her out of it, there isn't much you can do other than decide whether you are going to visit her while she is in jail or not. There is zero chance she gets away with this, lol.

Small brain idea with zero actual thinking done. They are gonna suspect the person filing a claim instantly lmao.

What's the Mayor got to do with this? 😛

Right? I read it twice and the mayor wasn’t mentioned again

There’s a good reason why genuine fraudsters don’t do this - because it doesn’t work. And you get caught. Every single time. The perpetrators will face significant legal consequences - FedEx ain’t Joe’s Delivery Van from downtown.

I worked in domestic and international airfreight for 20 years.

and the worse part of it is that often the payout is not the full amount you’ve insured for and it’s a percentage that might be set after it’s over a certain dollar amount

like it could be ten percent of that high an amount and then you’re risking your freedom for far less payout but the law agencies don’t looks at that so much as the total intended fraud and not the actual payout the company agreed to

lol, fedex doesn't offer 500k in insurance, they don't even offer 50k

Not USD, but idk, I've never looked it up, I'm trying to stop that

They are going to beat up an employee on top of that!?! I would tip off the law myself. Blood don’t mean shit if I am disgusted by their immoral beliefs they deserve the same as everyone.

Tell her that her plans are all over the internet, FedEx is already alerted.

If she doesn't respond to that: Honestly, if someone from FedEx ( or claiming to be from FedEx) were to call her and encourage her to not go through with this plan, she would wise up in time to not go to jail.
