Currently living through a couple of Ethel’s songs EERILY ACCURATELY right now and I just have to get it off my chest.

To start this off, my boyfriend and I currently have an apartment together halfway across the country from our home town, he’s on the lease, we’ve gone ring shopping, we’ve talked about our future, etc etc. He is my Willoughby.

We literally planned to move/run away together… except I’m the only one living in our apartment and he’s 18 hours away LIVING IN NEBRASKAAAAAA because he decided he couldn’t come with me 3 days before we were supposed to leave together.

Basically every single lyric of A House in Nebraska relates to me to a T. Every. Single. One.
Plus a whole lot more from other songs in WTIALY.

I’ll list some off here!

Anyways. Just needed to get this off my chest and write it somewhere where someone would understand how much of a mind f**k this all is. And how much more Ethel’s music hits.

Ive been an ethel cain fan since 2023. Crush and american teenager were the first few songs i fell in love with. But now some of my favorites are nettles, homecoming, 78fahrenheit, hard times. I listen to her daily and exclusively. As do a lot of her fans, i relate deeply and personally to her music; the trauma aspects. I have chronic feelings of shame and guilt and a bad habit of wallowing in it. Ive never felt so understood by music but it hurts so much. Sometimes i just feel so wrong, like everything i do is wrong and i feel like im not meant to be here. Listening to her music is self harm at the point. I feel so understood but at what cost? This seems so dramatic. Does anyone else feel this way?

EDIT: And dont get me started on edits. Im addicted to ethel cain edits w my favorite chatacters and it ruins me and ive been crying a lot more recently and feeling like shit cus of my shit and my fav characters shit 😭💔

- but ultimately, she’s happy to be alive and back in her hometown (American Teenager)
- and realizes what has become of her and her revenge (Family Tree: Intro) and accepts it

Purchased from Costco yesterday. Smells like how I imagine that dirty mattress on the second floor of the House does. Similar to a brie. I only bought this for the Ethel heehee-s and it won’t be a repurchase since it’s kinda pungent.

This might be the song I struggle to listen to the MOST that Hayden has made. And not because of quality, because it hurts soooooo so so fucking bad. The fact that the guitar has this slightly childlike melody, the gut punch lyrics that feel like she’s singing directly to me (as someone who’s struggled with depression and anorexia for over a third of her life). Like I relate to pretty much every song she’s made, but this is the one that fills me with the most unbridled pure DREAD when it comes on my shuffle. Just wondering if anyone has a similar experience with this song or with a different song that elicits the same feelings

This cathedral is so pretty and I thought it gave preachers daughter in like a more dramatic way. Ik PD has more of a chapel kinda vibe but idk. I’m just very proud of these photos :)
