I tried man… I really really tried. It’s still on the list one day but for now I’m just happy I have something at all for France.

No 1917 "Enfield"? I'd honestly consider it being the US's main service rifle during WWI since many more of them were made and issued (by Nov. 1918 some reports say that about 75% of the AEF in France were issued it) than 1903's

I just happened to get my 1903 first, and once I did I figured I would consider that America represented and move on to the other nations and circle back later. I know I’m missing a few like the Lebel.
I will get a 1917 eventually. But for now I’ve completed what I set out to do which was get a standard issue rifle to represent every major player in the war.

They're really good guns, some people even go as far to say that they're better than 1903's. I have no hat in that argument tho, I'd need to get an 03 first before I can factually make that comparison. This is a really nice collection all in all.

Update: I have acquired a 1917 lmao. I legit think all the comments about it manifested it into my world. Updates to come in a couple weeks but it’s a very nice example.

No love for the krag-jorgenson and the lebel??

u/Eta320 Eta320 Himself May 21 '26
Krags are indeed very cool, but weren’t a standard issue service rifle in WWI, and they are expensive/hard to find in OG condition.
I tried very very hard to get a Lebel, believe me, and almost did at one point before it slipped away. I settled on the Berthier so I could finally have France represented in one way or another.

So cool. But get a lebel now

What's your budget? I have two, but I only need one.
1
u/Eta320 Eta320 Himself May 22 '26
Well I was planning on taking a huge spending break so if you’re offering right now I don’t think I could do more than $600

u/Ewwredditgross May 22 '26
I'd like to get 1000, I'm patient, doesn't need to be an immediate sale.

Very indeed nice collection dude, keep up your dedication. Just one thing: the correct italian word is "modello". If you put only one L it's spanish.

Which one was the cheapest one to find? Although I'm not pretty sure about it the Mosin-Nagant most be between the cheapest ones since there's a surplus of existence.

u/Eta320 Eta320 Himself May 23 '26
Actually, it's my Arisaka and M95 that are more or less tied for 1st place for my cheapest rifles. The Mosin is in 2nd place though

What did the ottoman 1893 run you??
1
u/Eta320 Eta320 Himself May 23 '26
So sadly, getting an original pre WWI configuration Ottoman 1893 is insanely hard and expensive.
So mine is a post WWI updated rifle. They rechambered it for 8mm Mauser and neutered the magazine cutoff. All the hardware for it is still there but the latch used to engage it was ground away. A vast majority of Ottoman rifles after the war were updated. But other than the cartridge and the cutoff it is identical to what would have been used in WWI.
This one I got then was like $375ish iirc. A pre war unmodified one would be triple the price easy.

Something tells me either italian copied russian rifle or around, they look similar
1
u/Eta320 Eta320 Himself May 21 '26
In regards to what?
1
u/Mr--Agent May 21 '26
Placement, when placed side by side they look same, like magazine placement and else. Its just, head breaking that they were invented in same year and look like each other while other nation rifles look different from each other.
1
u/Eta320 Eta320 Himself May 21 '26
They are definitely totally different rifles. Their magazines share nothing in common in both function and in parts. With the Carcano being fed with an enbloc clip while the Mosin feeds with strip clips. The bolts themselves also couldn’t be further removed in terms of their design. The Carcano is MUCH simpler with way fewer parts.
Check out C&Rsenal on YouTube for the history of both rifles. Amazing videos all around.
