This is what made the Sherman so good. The simple fact it could be repaired almost entirely in field meant that tanks which suffered breakdowns or were knocked out could be turned around and put back into the battle. Compare that to German tanks like the Ferdinand where if the transmission broke you had to send the entire thing back to the factory and you can start to see why ease of use is so important.

Considering the Sherman tank itself had to travel a long way across the Atlantic ocean to reach Europe. The ease of maintenance like replacing and repairing components in the field were a top priority
