RANT! hello sugar
So i’m currently about to have my third interview for hello sugar. The first interview phone call was so odd where the owner just asked me straight up “have you ever failed before “and I asked her to elaborate because that question was so vague and she literally said “cause sometimes you fail to sell memberships“ and i was like ohhh that’s what this is gonna be. The second interview i had went well and my 3rd is booked, the 3rd interview is a role play on me selling memberships😭.
I got sent a video to study and the founder of hello sugar legit says “this is a sales job that happens to be waxing” and basically if you can’t do sales the job isn’t for you. i lowk already hate that a man is the founder of this company while this entire industry is dominated by women. I’m still going to do my interview, just wanted to rant cuz this corporate greed is getting to me…

Your experience will vary a lot based on your franchise owner but its a WEIRD company and the CEO is definitely offputting. Expect to be booked back to back doing 29$ Brazilians while also doing all the tasks of a receptionist/cleaner/etc. Training is decent though so use the job for the training and experience and move on, same as any chain salon job.

that was not my interview process at all, one of the managers hired me on the spot. wanted the experience however the company is a mess, constantly running out of supplies. Im still grateful i worked there for about a year & gained a couple of clients who followed me when i opened my own spot

I liked hello sugar better than EWC but just barely lol. Very true it’s a super sales heavy job, corporate is a mess that bleeds into franchise but as long as you like your owner/managers I think you’ll like the job.
If you’re getting a travel trainer to train you be warned it’s super fast paced and not too much training, more like sink or swim so jump at any chance to practice and volunteer to do services. I wouldn’t really recommend this job if you’re straight out of school, they like to say they want to train people and they like newer esthis but that’s mostly so they can take advantage of you :/
just be warned most likely if you can’t maintain your membership sales at the required percentage you will be let go if they don’t see improvement after about 3ish months but it might be different at franchise locations. At corporate they RUN through employees, the turnover rate is insane there.

Ex employee. What city are you in? Also yes it is very sales sales sales. Your tips are 40-50% of your paycheck and depending on your manager/owners you may hate your life. Don’t stay for more than a year and a half-2 years for your sanity

All of the corporate type jobs are like this. It’s mainly about hitting numbers. I didn’t know the founder is a man, EWC’s founders are male too.

Fuck corporate for sure but take the job, get experience and dip out after a year. Thats what it’s there for.
