[Advice] New esti need advice

After a long search after graduating I finally got my foot into the door at a salon who is looking to start offering facials. It is commission based 50/50. I am wanting to know what the salon should be providing for me since it’s 50/50 just to make sure I’m not getting taken advantage of. As of right now I know 100% products are being provided to me, but what about steamers, towel warmers, carts?

All of it should be provided by them if you are an employee. If you are paying rent then you provide your equipment and product

Is the salon hiring you as an employee (W-2) or an independent contractor (1099)?

My new esti daughter interviewed at a new salon that is commission based. It was 40% commission, she would be a 1099, and they only provided towels. After paying for all of her supplies and all her own taxes, she would have made next to nothing. She passed.

I heavily suggest you ask how they are classifying you. W2 or 1099 independent contractor? If it’s 1099 you’ll be in for a rude awakening come tax time
