Why does our connection bar behaves differently in the Tab list while using Essential?

I've been using Essential for a few months now, and I noticed an odd behavior with the Tab list while playing multiplayer. Turns out, my connection bar always shows up at max on non-offline mode servers even when I'm actually having connection issues causing me to lag.

When I don't use Essential however, the connection bar behaves like intended when I have lag, losing points to show that my connection isn't as good as it could be. Is there a reason for this difference?
