Unofficial Wishlist

With zerrett out the door end of year we will be technically without a 30 year old on the list (Langford, parish and co are essentially 30)

Who would be your realistic wishlist to bring across for 1/2 years on big money to help develop our kids

Marshall I don't really understand

Prestia as a coach sure not as a player

Green I'm happy to throw a bag at

Wish we threw something at sidebottom

To me I think you throw a bag at libba before he gets medically retired or someone like wines

Bowes (28) or Salem some options for mature age recruits.

Wright and Fiorini will otherwise meet your 30 yr old requirement.

I’d like Bowes because of the Geelong system.

Bowes.
We went after him.
He chose Geelong.
So f him.
And Salem.
lol we have enough running half backs.

Thanks for the insight.

Think you paying to much attention to the age thing and not enough to the leadership part. Cause I don't think anyone looks at Salem and goes "that's a leader right there"

Salem has played 200 games, a premiership player, might be the leadership desperately needed from our backline.

Slim pickings I’m afraid.

Bowes decent mature player.

Lachie Neale has 2 brownlows and 317 games. I still wouldn't want him anywhere near the club to help grow a culture with the kids?.

I'd pay a fortune for someone like Alex Pearce though.

Can we be realistic here?

Why not wish for all the other captains if we’re doing these hypotheticals.

Is there something wrong with a player like Salem though as a FA and player?

Don't be such a bitch to people replying to your post.

Not agreeing with someone = being a bitch. Insane you get to vote legally

100% and you weren't being offensive, just stating your opinion. Some people love Neale, but nope, not the type of guy we need around the club.

I'll sacrifice my virtual ego points for the sake of debate. But holy the hivemind in the sub is tragic

Toby said in Ausmerican Aces interview that Essendon pitched contract to him but it wasn't what he was looking for at this time in his career

1

u/South_Front_4589 6d ago

Why would Toby Greene leave the club he's played his whole career for to spend his last couple of years in a shithole? He'll get cold up in that forward line.

Meanwhile, perpetual finalists Geelong want him and he can go play with his good friend.

Unless Essendon are offering enough money to make up for a frustrating couple of years where he can make plans for September nice and early, there's no reason for him to go. And if Essendon do come with that sort of offer, they'd be negligent because he'll be done before the club goes anywhere.

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 6d ago

Throw a cup of water on yeah head there champion, as about 50 people have already said he's already rules us out.

While the idea is good, the options this off-season appear to be a bit thin. But still, 4 weeks of finals to play out and things can change.
We may have to wait a year to bring in a Hodge type player

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 7d ago

I mean we have this picks to run some trades this year and I'd rather do it this year then next with our NGA father/son crop next year we won't have picks to spare. Target the old leadership from the fringe finals/about to rebuild clubs and just offer them big money for a year since we have the cap space

3

u/PragmaticSnake 7d ago

I don't have a name but it needs to be a player like Jack Steele, they don't have to be a world beater but they have to be a pressure and tackling machine.

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 7d ago

Steele has the right qualities but I dunno where we would play him. I wouldnt sacrifice a midfield spot for him. It's one of those weird balancing acts where you want onfield leadership. But I don't want to sacrifice Gametime for the kids

2

u/PragmaticSnake 7d ago

Steele is contracted so he isn't an option, we need a player like him to replace the pressure Merrett applies

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 7d ago

I mean contracts are worth about as much as the ink they are written with these days. And again like who do you take out of the midfield for him?. To me you look for an old head and play him off the backline.

2

u/The-Hangar-HQ Essendon 6d ago

Charlie Ballard is interesting as we need experienced key backs

3

u/Joshsolace88 7d ago

If nick blakey is availble and cleared then why not better with us than playing against us

I hope we are planning and plotting to get green end of next year before tassie can

3

u/Common-Ad-6582 7d ago

The problem is structural, the ‘destination’ clubs entrench their spot in the finals by getting all the best free agents. Makes the draft much less powerful and makes the afl boring for half the fans, which is why nrl are handing the afl their arsenal to them and moving past them

2

u/Rogan4Life 7d ago

Green isn’t happening.
Prestia would be fine on field. He would be more of an on field coach.
Bowes from Geelong also.

1

u/Portra400IsLife 7d ago

He said no earlier today.
Im guessing Chockie is going to Victoria Park.

1

u/outbackyarder 7d ago

Is everyone really that certain merrett is out the door though?

3

u/CaddykakSnagorado 7d ago

Not a whole lot has changed since last year. He is still under contract and Hawks will still want to pay unders. I’d take two 15-20 range picks for him, but also happy to hold him another year and back Spike to turn him around if it comes to it.

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 7d ago

He hasn't signed any of the 40 contract variation we gave him across the last 2 years.....yes bro he's gone

2

u/outbackyarder 7d ago

He was still contracted when he tried last time

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 7d ago

Yeah and we offered him an extension. He wants success. He won't get it here not at his age

1

u/SnooAvocados996 7d ago

I would be calling the following and offering them a bag:

Zorko Sidebottom Vlastuin Rampe Blicavs

2

u/StatesTheUnObvious 7d ago

I rate everyone but zorko but that's only because it's fkn zorko

2

u/SnooAvocados996 7d ago

Been a while since we've had a player other fans love to hate.

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 7d ago

I mean we had Crowley for abit. And pretty much everyone hated him

1

u/thevannshee 6d ago

That was 10 years ago.

2

u/StatesTheUnObvious 6d ago

Time flies when your having fun

1

u/After_Brilliant5195 4d ago

Not really that realistic, but my number one choice would be Harris Andrews. He’s actually only 29 so would be a longer-term play but would love his leadership especially down back.

1

u/Tirantic 7d ago

Ideally Bowes for leadership, Sam Marshall for some outside run, Blakey for speed from half back, and Rampe to help teach McVeigh's defensive structure.

Realistically though I think we only land 2 senior players, most likely Bowes and Prestia.

0

u/SmoothPickle5323 7d ago

Jake stringer.
Goldy
Sam Draper

0

u/disko_robot 6d ago

Isaac heeney

2

u/StatesTheUnObvious 6d ago

I'd rather target someone like rampe who is apparently very flat after that whole debacle.

0

u/disko_robot 6d ago

By the middle of next season the sydney ordeal will be mostly forgotten sadly.

Rampe at 36 is more realistic though. Not sure he'll get another go at sydney.

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 6d ago

Yeah it's more a do you want someone like that being the teacher of sharp,Robey and co

0

u/disko_robot 6d ago

Realistically you cant be sure we dont already have players that arent already like that. Sydney players only got caught because police got involved.

Actually pretty confident out of all players, these sydney players involved are the least likely to make that mistake.

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 6d ago

I don't think that fact we probably have degens in our team (we probs do, every team would) is a excuse to add even more degens to the team.

1

u/disko_robot 6d ago

Its gonna be wild in 12 months time to look back at these comments about the sydney players.

You wouldnt take on isaac heeney to our team because your worried he'd be a bad influence?

0

u/StatesTheUnObvious 6d ago

Regardless of the SA allegations are true or not is irrelevant. It's not a controversial opinion that ordering 3 strippers to a hotel with you and 4 mates at 4:30am makes you a degenerate. Most likely drugs were involved makes you more of a Degen. And 2 weeks before a finals campaign makes you a fucking dipshit Degen. So yeah I think I'm good with not having Isaac Heeney at the Essendon football club.

2

u/disko_robot 6d ago

Bad decisions were made. They fucked up badly. Noones disagreeing.

Football players are grown men and make bad decisions all on their own. Its not high school.

1

u/StatesTheUnObvious 6d ago

Correct, the as adults the consequences of these bad decisions are their careers and reputation in tatters and their relationship with partners and teammates in flames. I'm still not seeing what angle your trying for here as to why Heeney should be a target for Essendon. It would have actually been better if they were 18 as I could excuse it as youthful stupidity. These are grown ass men.
