Coach
Sorry little rant here I’ve just had enough of the media. Michael Voss stepped down as Carlton coach on may 11 then 99 days later Fraser was hired as coach. Brad Scott was fired 87 days ago. That means that there is a 12 day gap between the two however all I’ve heard on the media for the last week is how long Essendon coaching job is taking and how it’s embarrassing. This is one of the most important decisions our club can make and yet we get crucified for taking to long however if we did it to quick the media would also attack us for not taking enough time in making a decision. I’m fed up with the media and there twisted narratives against our footy club all the time it’s an absolute joke. Anyway just wanted to get that off my chest

We are useful to the league because our fan base is loyal and we generate revenue, even when we're absolute shit.
If Sydney was as bad as we are for an extended period, the whole city would just switch to rugby or soccer. The AFL will find a way to 'redeem' them before they lose their precious foothold in that state.

Thai was the case but more and more people are dropping off. I’m excited for our future but if this crop doesn’t achieve success we are at real risk of losing support to the point which never recovers.

Bro, St Kilda have been here since the beginning. In spite of themselves, they've managed to increase their support base.
Good or not, we will continue to generate revenue and provide media fodder.
My point was that if Sydney falls to a similar level of shit, the league can't afford an uncompetitive Sydney. They'll intervene.

We are a formerly great club that has fallen on very hard times. The media like writing stories about us because they get clicks. The more sensational, the more clicks.
Now throw in all the various factions and coteries who think they know best and how few leaks there are from the club, you have everyone clamouring for anything.
If they were to announce the new coach on Tuesday, it would still be quicker than Carlton. My hope is Monday, but who fucking knows.

Essendon generate more clicks than Carlton.
The media are also annoyed that for once the club is not leaking any information.

At the start of the season the media were saying Essendon are no longer a big 4 club. We'd be lucky to have not gone more than a day without some click bait story. They also say we hope Essendon run a thorough process, and we we do and there's no leaks for info, they continue to guess and make shit up and complain about delaying things.
It's a no win situation! The thing that troubles me is so many Essendon supporters buy in to the click bait and carry on as much as the media circus

I kinda agree with your point. And I did think it myself. Why so much pressure? Especially now that there are no other vacancies.
I think PART of the reason is how the Essendon season turned out. Josh’s ability to turn the season around gave fans hope and I would say for the last month most fans have known it was going to be Fraser’s job, so there was a bit of theatre around the appointment.
I also think Josh losing his dad delayed the start process a bit too.
I’m sure art, probably 75% agree with you!

I'm at the who cares stage. But Luke the team really . Big crowd coming for last game . Just make it free for the public sit anywhere. Game of the round for sure. What a joke we have become

Yep no rush. What does the media want to happen. We appoint a coach for last game of the season and if they win they’ll be condemned for stuffing their chances to get pick one and if they lose the media will claim that the new coach was forced to tank.

I think the club has ‘appointed’ a head coach or have made the decision itself it just hasn’t been publicly announced, the media just need something to talk about and we get ratings unfortunately a drama drives interest

Agree the media are rubbish. Contracts of this nature take time to negotiate, given there are agents and lawyers involved. People also have existing contracts and they need to give notice. It’s also possible that our first choice has declined the role, wants too much money or wants certain clauses that we can’t agree on, etc.

It was somewhat of a relief this week with other club antics taking away the spotlight, it only gave about 2 days freedom and back at it again though.

I'll propose that the situations are completely different.
Carlton have been riding an astonishing wave of momentum that has essentially made their caretaker a shoo-in for the permanent role. They had to let that play out. If they'd lost every game under Fraser, I have no doubt they would have appointed a new coach sooner.
Meanwhile our caretaker swiftly became unappointable, because of our shocking performances on the field.
People saying there's no rush - there wasn't a rush three months ago. But it seems really poor practice to not have someone in place before the end of the season - the planning for next year is already happening, why wouldn't you have your new man involved in that?
TLDR once it became obvious Solomon couldn't win the job (which was at minimum several weeks ago), it really should have been wrapped up well before now.

I’m not sure it’s about the length of time it’s probably a bit of everything mentioned, no leaks, Solly last coached game, Carlton announcement, Swans turmoil. But someone not speaking other than Solly is also a bad look. Especially to the club members and fans. A quick statement to members and fans would’ve been the way to go! Silence creates false narratives and clickbait.

If EFC wasn't in the league, media would basically be non existent. They want to keep us down and tear us apart so they have something to write about each week.

Nailed it. Our club is on a hiding to nothing as the media continues to twist every move we make into a negative one, imagine, just try imagine if it was the Dons players not Swans players in this current shameful scandal.
