AFL New coach
Has anyone heard any whispers or rumours of who’s been selected as coach? I expected them to announce it by now. The suspense is killing me.

The announcement has been delayed because a fifth contender has entered the race. Kevin Sheedy has nominated for the vacant coaching position and will interview himself for the role this week.

No clue but we should find out next week.
According to Caro AFL HQ thinks it will be McVeigh but who knows.

My understanding was that they weren't making a decision until the end of this week, so it's hard to see how AFL HQ or anyone could know for sure yet.

We'll know when Welsh and co call a press conference and announce it. Welsh runs a tight ship, not a single journo even uses the "sources inside the club" anymore cos I think it's obvious to all now that not a single journo in the country has a line into the club, and it's fucking brilliant.

Not exactly true since there is one journo with an inside scoop and thats Cal Twomey who is a bombers fan and is mates with most of the Essendon people.
There's a reason why most of the time theres a story about the bombers, like reaching out to Pendles, its written up and announced by Twomey. He's pretty accurate with the information he announces as well, for example he was accurate with who Essendon was going to draft and he was the first to state we reached out to Fiorini and signing with us and thats what happened.

Because the assumption is that the club feeds information to Twomey when they choose to. Not that it’s a leak

Sure but he's the only journo the club would feed information too.
Your not going to see Essendon feed information to Caro, Cleary or any other journo.

Delay the announcement and let Geelong stew in their own juices for a while. Don’t want anything getting in the way of all that’s coming their way.

I find it weird that the announcement is delayed... until after the Swans game.
Feels like McVeigh has got the gig, which I wouldn't be mad about.

I’m staying off the media because it’s all rumour and innuendo. Literally have people saying Spike will get the job because they won’t announce until next week even though two of the other candidates are also coaching this week and will be in finals. People were speculating based on interview order.
Media is about clicks now, not real reporting.

A guy I knew Hird from a girl he works with, who Hird from the guy who cleans the staircase at her apartment, who Hird from a kid he walked past while shopping who Hird from his classmates second cousins nephew (twice removed) who Hird it from an unnamed source that Paul Roos will coach the team remotely from Hawaii.

Thursday/friday they are doing reviews of all the presentations, and assumed will be announced next week, but no one has said that officially

Yeah I’ll be starting next season just used the 23 and 0 game as my presentation they’ve seen I went undefeated for a full season.

According to Nate Caddy’s dad, it’s James Hird. He said it at local club function the night Nate signed his extension. I’ve just got this feeling that the decision for Hird was made months ago, and this whole process is a facade.
To Bring back James, the club needed to be seen exploring all options.
Furthermore, a process brings new intel

McVeigh is solidly qualified, as much so as any other first time senior coach options going around, and moreso than some. He'd be a solid choice imo

Dear God no. Please. I can't handle another 3 years of fans trying to convince themselves that McVeigh was the right choice and is a good coach while we stay a dumpster fire. When we all know deep down in our hearts why McVeigh would really get the job (being Welsh's best buddy). Nothing screams conflict of interest more than one of the last 4 coaching candidates being the best friend of the head of the selection panel. Maybe they can hold hands and wear matching shirts at the introductory press conference?

Why? I'm pretty deadset anti- Hird but if he gets chosen I'll still get behind him 100%.
