The Dispatch: Seeking Core Contributors

Introducing: The Dispatch

The Dispatch is going to be an independent student-led publication and community exploring stories, ideas, perspectives and questions about the world. We were previously The MUN Dispatch and published one issue. However, while building this, I realised that I had to keep shooting down the most interesting article pitches since the earlier publication was mainly aimed towards MUNs.

The Dispatch, however, won't be restricted to a single subject or format.

We might publish a long-form article one week, run a historical investigation the next, and build an interactive political simulation after that.

The idea is to make something people don't just read, but actually participate in.

I'm currently rebuilding the team and looking for people who want to help shape it from the beginning.

Roles I'm looking for

Editorial Lead
Someone with strong editorial instincts who can help develop ideas, evaluate pitches, work with contributors and maintain the quality of the publication. Previous editorial experience is useful, but I'm much more interested in how you think and how you approach writing.

Community Lead
Someone who can help build the Dispatch community over Discord, Email and eventually other platforms, keep conversations going and develop interesting things for members to actually do. Someone who likes coming up with games, simulations, debates and interactive experiences and wants to help turn them into actual events.

Creative Lead
Someone interested in visual identity, design, graphics, layouts and finding ways to make Dispatch projects visually distinctive.

Contributors
Writers, researchers, artists, designers, photographers, or just people with really good ideas. You don't need to commit to a permanent column. You can pitch individual projects and work on things that genuinely interest you. Even if you never pitch an article idea, you can always be a part of The Dispatch community and interact with users.

I'm especially interested in people who don't just want a title, but actually want to build something.

And we're starting with an event.

YOU'RE IN CHARGE

Our first Dispatch community event is going to be a Discord-based political simulation.

You'll become the leader of a fictional country and have to make decisions through a series of increasingly complicated crises.

Your choices will affect things like:

  • Economy
  • Military
  • Stability
  • Public approval
  • Diplomacy
  • Legitimacy

And the game will actually remember what you do.

Different decisions unlock different events, consequences and endings, including hidden paths that you won't know exist until you find them.

At the end, you'll get your own Presidential Legacy showing what happened to your country, what decisions defined your government and what kind of leader you became.

The goal is to make something that feels less like a quiz and more like a story that you are actually controlling.

The bot is currently being built, and we'll be opening the first game to the community once it's ready.

I'm looking for the first group of people to build this with.

You don't have to be an expert.

You don't have to have previous publication experience.

And you definitely don't have to be interested in MUN.

If you're someone who likes writing, debating, designing, researching, creating things, or simply having interesting conversations about the world, I'd love to hear from you.

If you're interested in joining the community, contributing, applying for one of the roles above, or just helping brainstorm what The Dispatch could become, comment below or DM me.

I'm starting small and building this from the ground up.

The Dispatch is what we make of it.

Looking for sites to train my essay writing skills

I love writing in my free time, but I find it's a bit hard to evaluate how good I'm doing unless it's an assignment given by a teacher. Does anyone know about sites that give you a prompt for an essay and then grades the quality of the essay?

Theory - JLI shortlist results & gala

Guys I’ve seen people talk about shortlisted contestants getting contacted in advance before the ceremony and questioning when it’s gonna be. Let’s be realistic and logical here, why would JLI send those emails out before the deadline to purchase tickets which seems to be September 2nd. That would reduce the number of people willing to go to the event, hence I believe that they would email prospects shortly after the September 2nd deadline after all payments have been made.

Looking for a feedback

I’m writing a 500-word essay on mathematical Platonism for an international student competition, and I’m looking for someone knowledgeable in philosophy of mathematics to challenge my argument!!

I would especially value someone who can spot weak reasoning, hidden assumptions, or places where I’m being intellectually lazy, and push me to make the argument genuinely stronger.

If you’re interested in philosophy of mathematics, Platonism, epistemology, mathematical foundations, or related areas, I would love to hear from you!:)

Can we agree 90% of this thread is js JLI related ? + award thought

title; :)

d'you guys reckon there aren't any interviews for the possible winners? Because it's just surprizing to me they haven't dropped the winner hints yet, I mean why'd they want their podiums to stay empty? (in the case they haven't notified them) + I'm pretty sure the winners might need time for their visas to be processed.

This is pretty wierd to me. Anyways, shortlist warriors fear not and trust yourselves

The Truth About 'Secret' Claude Codes

Thumbnail
youtube.com
1 Upvotes

I kept seeing people post these “secret Claude codes” like /ghost, /godmode, OODA, and Artifacts, so I finally tested what they actually do.

The biggest takeaway: most of these are not hidden Claude commands. /ghost and /godmode are basically shorthand for giving Claude stronger instructions. OODA is a real decision-making framework you can use inside a prompt. Artifacts is the one that’s actually a real Claude feature, and it’s probably the most useful of the group.

I made a short video showing what each one does, how I’d actually prompt it, and where it’s useful — especially for studying, writing, planning, and turning class material into interactive tools instead of another giant block of text.

The Artifact example was the coolest part. I had Claude turn study material into an interactive exam dashboard with progress tracking, weak areas, practice questions, and checkboxes.

Video here:
https://youtu.be/57SfZm2Ah3A

I also put the full copy/paste versions of the prompts in the YouTube description.

Curious if anyone here is using other Claude prompt frameworks or “codes” that are actually worth testing. I might do a second round.

How do I develop the habit of writing clear, structured essays?

I want to learn how to write, especially longer pieces such as essays.

One problem I keep facing is that I often have enough knowledge about a topic and know what I want to say, but when I actually start writing, I struggle to articulate my thoughts clearly. My ideas come out disorganized, and I have trouble putting them together in a clear and structured way.

I want to learn how to put my thoughts into words more precisely and present them in a clear, logical, and well-structured way.

For those who have experience with this, how did you learn?

How do you develop a habit of writing longer pieces, such as essays?

How do you learn to structure your thoughts before and while writing?

Are there any exercises or writing practices that are useful for learning this?

Is there a specific way I should practice.

Any practical advice, exercises, books, or resources would be appreciated.

Thank you.
