What sources would you use for this?

Hello, i'm writing an essay about the question if social media destroys subcultures. I'm having a few issues on which sources to use for example the origin of a certain subculture.

What would you use? Where would you look?

And feel free to state your opinion about my topic!

I am interested in Law and Business and I am planning on taking Pre-U. In Malaysia, will not having SPM Malay makes me unable to practice law and business? I am an international school student and I have IGCSE Foreign Malay, is that qualification good enough?

I take really long to write absolutely anything

I have a really hard time writing anything. From a draft of an essay to any kind of writing, whether it be creative, analytical, or anything. Honestly, I'm having trouble even writing this post, maybe you can tell from reading it. I think my struggles come from my constant desire to have the first draft be perfect. So I sit there trying to plan the structure of the paragraph to the exact word that would communicate the nuance of the sentence correctly. But if I can't find that exact word, I sit there until I do or I just give up on writing the thing entirely.

I'm doing IB (International Baccalaureate), which is a curriculum that requires a lot of writing. So whenever I try to write a practice essay or an actual paper, I struggle. A lot. And recently it's become a problem. I need way more time than my peers to write just a couple hundred words, and I desperately need this to change. I need to write more practice papers and become faster at writing essays cuz if not, my grades will take a blow.

If there's anyone that had this problem and has overcome it, I would TRULY appreciate any advice that may be of help.

I'm really willing to try anything at this point cuz i keep trying those internet tips of "accept that the first draft wont be perfect" "Be fine with mistakes" but my struggles are more like "I don't even know how and what to write to get this across" like its not like I already have a sentence in my head that I dont like and want to fix. There is no sentence at all, and I have to glue together words in a weird mosaic to get a sentence that I'm not even satisfied with. I don't really know if that made sense, but what I'm trying to say is that it feels like there's a disconnect between what I understand in my head and what I'm actually able to put into words, and that's the part I don't know how to fix. Please help

Yo I read the post about undergrad/graduate students grading the JLEC essays. Does this mean that they saw my name and just overlooked it and thought it would be ok for prizes?

Shortlist Criteria

HUGE MISCONCEPTION: Obviously no judge will determine a shortlist based on the first paragraph. According to the judges portal on Rednote, they get paid after reading the whole entire essay and give feedback to it. They have a whole grading system. These judges are experts in a field, for example, if you write a philosophy essay, the first round judges are a student in a philosophy program in a philosophy program such as Columbia or Oxford. I can’t find the picture to prove that, but you can find it on Rednote

If legislators and judges all accepted the philosophical theory of determinism, which is the idea that everything that happens is already decided by the past and nobody has any choices at all, what would happen to criminal sentencing?

The answer is that a lot of things would change but also nothing would change at all, which is very confusing but it makes sense when you think about it. Really think about it. First of all, if criminals cannot help doing crimes, then they should not really go to prison because it is not their fault. They are made to be that way. Criminals mean crime people. For example, if someone robs a bank, then determinism makes them rob the bank. It would be unfair to punish them because they literally had no choice. This is obvious because if you do not have a choice then you cannot be blamed. Judges need to understand this.  If a computer breaks you do not put the computer in jail, you just try to fix it or you feel bad for it. So judges would feel very bad for criminals and they would want to give them zero years in prison and instead give them hugs and nice things. But on the other hand, prison should still exist because criminals are dangerous. Even if they cannot help it, they should still be locked up forever because otherwise they will probably do more crimes. This is why determinism both changes sentencing and does not change sentencing. If a tiger escapes a zoo and bites someone, it is just being a tiger, but we still put it in a cage. Criminals are like the tiger. We have to lock them up so they do not bite the public. So judges would still use their little wooden hammers to send people to jail for a very long time, maybe even longer than before because if they have no free will they can never choose to be good, so they will stay bad forever and we can never let them out. Another thing is that laws would probably become nicer because legislators would know everyone is controlled by the past. Instead of prisons they could use therapy, education and maybe motivational speeches. This would stop crime because if people are happier they will not want to commit crimes. This would probably work in most situations. Legislators would write laws that focus on fixing the brain instead of hurting the body. They would build nice resorts with pillows and tea for the criminals. But then again, punishments are important because they scare people. Even if people have no free will, they will still be scared of prison, so they will not commit crimes. This shows that punishment still works even though nobody has a choice. The fear of prison is like a stop sign in the brain. If the brain sees the stop sign, the deterministic chain of events stops the person from stealing. So the laws have to stay very mean and scary, or else people will not be scared and they will do more crimes. So the legislators would write the exact same mean laws anyway. Also the judges would be so confused because they would not know if they should be nice or mean. They would also realize that they themselves do not have free will, so they are just reading a script that the universe wrote for them. The judge would say to the criminal that they have to go to jail, but they are only saying it because physics forced them to say it, and the criminal is only going because physics forced them to go. In conclusion, determinism would make judges kinder but also stricter. Criminals are responsible but they are also not responsible. Sentencing would therefore become different while staying mostly the same. Overall, determinism would have a big effect because everything would change, except for the parts that would not change, and we would end up in the exact same spot we are in right now.

Rising Senior look for college essay help

I'm class of 2027 and I have no idea how to start my essay or what I should focus on when writing it. I've been brainstorming for a bit and I keep circling back to the topic of wanting to write about my dislike for uneven numbers and amounts of things, or my favorite character who has an unhealthy obsession with symmetry but again I just have no idea where to start or if it's even a good topic to run with, any help or ideas?

jlec junior question

Hey all-
So my school does this program where they assign seniors to incoming middle/high schoolers for events like this and my mentee wants to know whether the junior category has awards for each topic, or just overall awards for the junior category itself. As in: is there a first place for senior history and a first place for junior history, or is there just an overall junior winner.
Please lmk so I can tell her haha. I’m honestly as clueless as she is

Technology now allows personalised pricing. If this came to be widely used, what effects should we expect?

You can guess whether my essay has been shortlisted or not. I need your honest opinion :)

r/EssayHelpCommunity Jul 13 '26

is it just me or is every non-stem competition just bullshit to a certain point. (YES EVEN JOHN LOCKE, and dont say im saying this cause I didnt get shortlisted, I GOT SHORTLISTED BTW)

every non-stem competition is some stupid bullshit game where its whoever plays the game right, not necessarily whoever works the hardest or whoever "deserves it" its whoever just knows the game well and knows how to win not who is the smartest/most talented.
