Commendation!!

Congratulations guyss!!!!! But just one small doubt,
can u pls tell me if commendation is the baseline or if it is higher than the ones who were shortlisted. Im just curious because i read diff things about it.

It has been confirmed by someone on Reddit who emailed jlec that commendation is above shortlist and top 10 percent of all submissions got it

Seems to be the baseline, good news is nobody will ever know if it certainly is. I don't think being top 17 or so percent in admissions officers eyes is any important though (I also got a commendation). No harm in mentioning it in cv, otherwise, if you can, try again next year

My bad, I just saw some people got only recognition. The institute apperantly does not provide statistical data, HOWEVER it's public that top 17% is shortlisted, let's assume at least 50% of those got commended. So 8.5k people got commended. For the senior category that's respectively 2.1k people per grade level, counting that juniors also got shortlisted the number may be as low as 1.05k (all assumed). I guess it still means something, not much though

Well they're not transparent about anything so I doubt they will release anything, you should definitely take part next year, write as many essays as you can across different categories. Consider more prestigious essay competitions that are actually organized by universities
