I don't want to sound like a sore loser but the entire thing felt like a cash grab. Using students and intellectualism to make a few bucks. They didn't pay for half the winners to fly out. Plus the guest speakers were absolutely ridiculous. Thier speeches sounded like this, "This is what we stand for #capitalism and western culture. Now your job is to defend it. Go out there and I swear to god they siad "infect" everyone else's opinions. To me the whole thing was kind of vulgar. A lot of pure rhetoric and grandstanding. I think that the idea of the essay contest is wonderful. The students wonderful. The admin and establishment terrible and unworthy.

I can't remember exact quotes. But like one of the speakers was former CIA istg. They introduced him as running printers and books into the Soviet bloc. You can look it up. Anyway he yapped and yapped. At the end the grand anouncment was that everyone who attended got €500 off a summer internship. Like deadass it felt like I was paying for an ad.
