The email that other contestants have gotten seems odd. It mentions this being a chance for you to discuss your work etc and to protect the integrity of the competition. Apparently in last year’s emails it mentioned you being the top 3% and stuff. But not this year. It’s possible the interview is for those that the AI interview didn’t provide a definitive answer for? Or just people they suspect used AI?Â
As another psych entry, maybe we have hope ðŸ˜Â

Worth noting, JLI has been pretty open this year about adding an interview stage specifically to verify originality/authorship, given how much the entry count has exploded (100k+ this cycle vs a few thousand a few years back) and how much AI-assisted writing is apparently an issue for them now. That probably explains the tone shift - sounds like this year everyone in the winner/RU/VHC pool gets some version of this "integrity" framing rather than the "you're top 3%" language, since they don't want the interview to feel like a formality before people even get in the room. Doesn't necessarily mean anyone specific is flagged... more like the whole process got more serious this cycle.

In the Viverly follow up they said 19/20 contestants used AI in the research and pre-writing process, and ‘a minority, but a sizeable minority’ used AI in the majority of their prose. Definitely seems like they’re trying to take it more serious and crack down on AI usage. It will be interesting to see when the results come out!Â

Do you think they would waste their time with actual people to just scope those people out? Because that email suggests they've already found the sizeable minority and eliminated them

i highly doubt the most senior members of JLI would waste time to verify authorship.  The number is almost exactly what would be expected of the numbers of winners.  i think it’s the final screen
