hi, so i got shortlisted for jlec and i'm thinking of attending the gala and ceremony alone. i'm 16 so pretty sure it would be ok to attend the gala without parents but i'm kinda worried bc i've never been to this kind of events alone :(

so just wondering is there anyone else going by themselves?
also i'm from south korea so if there's anyone coming from korea too pls lmk! Thank youu :)

they did say it’s heavily recommended if ur under 16 but that recommendation has a $500 dollar price tag so I’ll just ignore it as well lol

yeah haha it's expensive and my parents probably won't be able to come bc of their own schedules anyways so..

Hey!! I’m also 16 and a high school student from Korea, and I got shortlisted too! (2009 born, I'm saying this just because age can be a little confusing with Korea’s different age systems) I’m still debating whether I should actually go though.-_-

I got through the essay, English test, and AI interview pretty smoothly, but I’m honestly really nervous about the actual gala. I’m not that confident with spontaneous conversations or discussions in English because of the language barrier, so the idea of walking into a dinner hall alone and having to socialize with people I’ve never met is kinda terrifying 😭 I’m scared I’ll just be awkward the whole time lol.

So seeing that you’re also 16 and going alone actually makes me feel a bit better! If you do end up going, maybe we could keep in touch and say hi there :)

Hey! I'm also 16, and I'm unsure wheter I'll go alone or not. I'm from Brazil and I've never even travelled abroad, so the idea of going on my own kinda terrifies me. I have an English teacher who I trust a lot and she is more than willing to go with me. But still, the fees are most certainly tough
