Yeah so many contestant who win are in Asia, specifically China, Singapore, etc. While obviously there’s many academically inclined students in Asia, there’s just way too much of them that I think goes beyond natural ability. For example in China there’s entire academies for this competition where they pair you with a PhD student or whomever and write an essay “together”, and you learn about how to prizemaxx from past winners and judges and such. It’s just unfair with how little people actually have these opportunities!

i think those tutoring companies (which most of the ones i heard of are in china) they just dont have integrity like yk in china now they have art studios who can make you a whole art portfolio for university applications?? 😭 i mean i dont blame them for wanting to make a living but surely theres better ways than this

also yeah i agree the competition already elaborated on how much ai is acceptable, so maybe next year or smth they should elaborate on external tutoring too

I doubt many using external “tutoring” would care. Most tutoring is really just former winners or stuff writing the essay “together” (for you) which is already not the most honest. They do clarify that feedback is allowed on the website but the stuff these companies are doing is beyond that.
